I'm in the middle of selling some equipment so i can buy other equipment. I have a couple pieces of gear that i'm up in the air with selling. Have you ever regretted letting something go? I'm unsure with selling my Marshall Cab (I already have a Boogie/Vox) and a Roland Kit (I have an accoustic). How would you justify keeping the Marshall and Roland kit? Thanks. Smile

i deeply regret selling an extremely nice Ibanez Artist, that i bought in '78.
it was sweet.
i sold it, to finance buying the Carvin i have, that is still my main axe.

hm, the marshall....

a lot of folks have strong feelings about certain older cabinets....the ones that were made without any of that sawdust wood.....

if it were to fall under that category, i'd at least find out what the highest dollar is that they sell for, and only settle on that.
otherwise i'd keep it.

the kit, that's another thing...
electronics, not quite the same thing as the mojo an older marshall cab has....
i'd ditch that, if you're not using it.

but if i was a gigging drummer, i'd think about having it as a backup.

Great question. I don't know your needs and such, but off the top of my head....

..I think I'd be very willing to unload the roland v-kit. Unless you got it for a great price...because the costs of those is probably going down. Well, let me think, depends, the cost of the "brain" will definitely go down, the triggers may be more handy.

The cab? No idea.

Late 70s Kramer 650G Artist guitar w/ aluminum neck. It weighed a ton and was a bitch to play, but man it had a wild deep kinda sound with sustain for a mile.

That sucker was so top heavy (worse than my Les Paul by a mile) that you were basically supporting the neck with your left hand as opposed to actually chording anything! Whoo hoo!!

I had an old Randall Head and cab with a huge ass speaker in it that I kind of miss now too for certain things -- it had a unique sound, but was very inflexable, kind of did one thing well and that was it. Sometimes I miss that simpler stuff though -- the guitar was kind of a novelty in live situations, but sounded really interesting when recorded.

Sold the guitar to a junky for $250 - big mistake. The thing might be a collector's item now for all I know -- guess I should look it up on e-bay some time :P

Sold the amp to a kid from minnesota who sold all of his gear to get to California.

My lil' bro gave me his 70's Ibanez Artist. He just couldn't get into learning how to play..I had it for about 6 months and sold it for $300 cuz I needed the money..He was quite upset when he heard that I sold it, even though he didn't make a big deal about it.

I was young dumb and, well..you know the rest..In hindsight, b/c it was a double cutaway, I could have had it setup for LH - I'm a lefty and it was one of the reasons I sold it.

wow..so 2 of you guys sold your Ibanez.
I may have a couple to sell. Smile
I am leaning on selling the kit because
i used to be in an apartment and i mainly
use samples instead of the Roland module.
Not sure, on the Marshall, it is a more
bright/tight sounding cab compared to
Boogie.

Hmmm....

Guitars/amps? Well how about these: 1968 Les Paul Custom, mid 60's ES 335, 68 SG standard, 72 Fender Hardtail strat. 66 Fender princeton reverb, 66 Fender vibrolux.

Recording gear? Not really. Most everything I missed once gone, I have bought all over again. Like my DBX 161 compressors, API eqs, Neve preamps ect. Seems that stuff is still available for fair prices. The guitar stuff seems to get snagged by collectors.

66 Fender Pbass in mint cosmetic condition and a warped neck that I bought in high school in 72 and sold in 75 because of the neck. I know luthiers in Austin that could have fixed that puppy and the fretboard was Brazilian rosewood.

An Alvarez Yairi acoustic with great tone, but no pickup and we needed money for things for the baby - sold for $100 at a garage saleFrown

In the "somebody please kick me" category - My ~1980 Pbass and a Gibson J45 with awesome tone both lost to a Pawn Shop in Nashville. I ran out of money trying to sell songs there and thought that if I pawned them, it would be motivation to go back and get them, didn't make it back in time. That was 1982. I couldn't even think about playing music for over a year I was so heartbroken.

JBL 4301 Monitor Speakers - traded for studio time in a not that great studio. Nice speakers and I could use them now.

74 Rickenbacker 4001? bass - spent more time going back to the factory for repairs than I spent playing it, but it sure looked great and probably would be nice to have around for different tones from my Pbass.

I finally learned my lesson. I have had the same Pbass since 1988 and I have a 1984 Martin Shenandoah that sounds better than it is supposed to without solid sides and a back and I am NEVER selling them. Likewise my long coveted and just bought SM81 for recording the acoustic, a Sansamp for the bass, and my Digi001. I have given up the quest for "the best" guitar, bass, DAW, guitar mic, as long as I have tools that work really well and these do. I just need a vocal mic for < $500 that works for my nasal voice and a < $500 preamp that works with my mics and some room treatment and then I will stop buying stuff. Really....... I mean it...... kind of.... I WILL probably sell my Rode NT1a when I find a mic that works better for my voice; it won't break my heart to let it go, but I guess it might be just the thing for someone who comes over to sing.....

Will write for food.....

The things that immediately popped into my mind:
(all over the course of 30 years)

- Trace Elliott Velocette 12R
- small collection of BF Fender amps with cabs)
- 65 Strat, 59 Tele, Gibson J45, 73 Precision Bass
- original TS808 tube screamer, then its subsequent TS9...and the Ibanez UE405, UE400, and UE300 multi-effects units...100% analog rack mounting (the 400s) devices with the best pure sounds ever heard...but I THOUGHT I needed presets, so sold them all to get some digital POS that has long since been gone.
- Studio wise, none come to mind, as I tend to glom onto things I really like...now I have given away stuff to interns, but nothing I really miss. Check that...I miss the old tape machines I used to have- a pair of Tascam 8 tracks on 1" tape, locked together with an Adams synchronizer, and a Tascam M512 ( I think it was) desk, with a couple of good reverbs and so on...

A U87 - circa early 70's. I didn't actually sell it. I was getting out of a bad marriage and left just about everything in the house which had a small demo studio in the basement (mostly Tascam gear). At the time I was grateful just to get out alive but now I regret not taking that mic with me. Bawling

JMP-1 as well. Loved it, but I got a dual rec instead that I used for years. Still I wish I still had it along with the Marshall 9200 tube amp and a Rocktron Pirahna. The Rocktron actually kicked much ass for metal tones and lots of bands that came thru the studio used it for recording, may find another on ebay one day.

Don't think I've actually sold anything I really miss ... I have walked away from stuff that I wish I still had, like the PA head and bass amp left at an old drummer's place, then I moved ...

I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the GreatRiver Me1nv from time to time. When you want THAT sound...that's the unit to have.

Considering what I traded it for...I'd do it again for my stuff/sound--but, it's still an impeccably cool piece of kit.

Well, I mostly regret selling or giving these away because they sell for silly prices.

Ibanez Tubescreamer (I liked my boss OD-3 better). I sold this, the following I gave away.

Boss OD-3 (japanese....I'd like to have this back)
Boss CS-1 (japanese....I'd like to have this back)
Boss BF-2 Flanger
Ibanez Analog Delay
Ibanez compressor
Maestro Sustainer
Maestro Phaser
Electric Mistress Flanger.

Ampeg VT-22 amplifier. I had two and the power tubes were impossible to find at the time. So I took all of the good ones and put the bad ones in one amp and traded it in for some midi junk (it's junk now, anyway).

Madguitrst has left the Forums.......but not before committing acts designed to offend the senses.
