Boo! This is not a fair test of what we should expect of a 57, I say...based on genetics! I used to live in Riverside and used to shop at Lier's Music where Kelly used to work, many moons ago. Talk was, Kelly is a cousin of one of the Eagles. I can't recall which one, but it was one of his co-workers who told me. (Chris Geith or maybe Louie Tozier? I forget!) Anyway, just listen to the vocals in the song! What does it sound like? Duh! It sounds like The Eagles! (You've gotta respect the guy for not tossing around the Eagles connection!) I've had the pleasure of even seeing his band perform at some coffee shop on Allessandro Blvd 4 or 5 years ago, (which might be gone since I moved to Atlanta)...but the guy is an all-around great musician/songwriter. Boo Kelly! You suck! hehe

In the early '70s I played bass on a remote location LP in the Texas Hill Country, recorded by Dale Ashby and Father Remote Recording. It was recorded on a jillion 57s in a house, snake run out to the Ashby's excellent remote truck, with MCI console, Ampex 24TK, great outboard gear and reverbs. Those guys were total pros, and the record sounded absolutely delicious.
There is a smoothness to the SM57 on most any instrument that brews up a warm, inviting mix.
And boy, do they last a long time. I have 57s that have been dropped spat on and screamed into for 25 years. They don't smell good or look good but they A/B just fine with new ones.
