actually I hear references to I have a small room, I have a large room, what is actually consider small, med, large. My room is 17 x 16 with a ten foot ceiling. I mix in a much smaller room at work and may actually like it better. Im just wondering if my room is to deep for near field monitors or if it matters. Im also getting ready to buy new monitors and would like some suggestions Jeff

generally you can have nearfield monitors in any room, as long as you're sitting "near" enough to them. note how the biggest control rooms still have NS-10s.

as far as new monitors, what do you have now, what don't you like about it, and what's your budget?

An ideal situation is to have at least 12 or 13 feet from your head to the back wall, so you are in pretty good shape for that. Aside from the fact that your control room is a little on the square side, it seem cool, but my guess is that you might have some reflections around the mix position.
