The 3uf cap should give you more bottom end from what I've read, do you find this true? I went with a 1.2uf instead of a 1uf and quite like the sound. I'm leaving mine there.

More bottom and more top too. Overall , the sound is more open and smoother.

Just ordered another mic to start playing around with..

Hey all, I've noticed a midrangy ringiness to the mic now, especially when I sing hard. No distortion/clipping, just sounds like there's definite bathroomy type ring (very slight) but it's there. I'm sure it's not the capsule or transformer. Could it be the new cap (Erse audio linear 1uf) or the tube (EH 12AT7). I've actually recently read that these aren't good tube for these mics...

While there are better quality tubes out there, I'm using EH 12AY7/6072 and 12AT7 in my mics and have no ringing problems. Now that doesn't mean that you might not have a bad tube.

If you tap on the tube does it make noise?

A hydroponic tube can create what you're describing, which means that it needs to be replaced. If you just bought it recently it may be under warranty.

As far as the cap goes, I have no idea.

K I changed out the EH 12at7 with a leftover chinese 12ax7b and the mic sounds WAY better. So I guess it was the tube because in an A/B test, I actually preferred my sm57 over the modded 460 and now the 460 blows it out! Now to get a real tube in there!

You're correct of course, it's microphonic.

Sometimes my brain just doesn't give me the right word for what I'm trying to say. I originally typed it hydrophonic, but the spelling check said it was misspelled. Of course it says that microphonic is misspelled too, but half's better than nothing.

Really I had to laugh myself once you pointed it out. Could you imagine...tube hydroponics..."you'll need to organically harvest your tubes with special soil and clean water. Then they'll sound really great."

You have to be careful with tube hydroponics. If the tube starts to smoke , it will greatly affect the the performance of the mic.

Final update for my mic (for now..hehe). I finally received my NOS RCA 6072a tube and got it in. I believe that this really is the tube for my mic. I A/B'd the mic next to my Studio Projects C1 (not the greatest but what I've been using) and am now wondering if there's something wrong with my C1. I've gotten good recordings with that mic in the past but next to the modded 460 (can we even call it a 460 anymore?) it sounds broken. I can actually get a 460 top screen assembly off a friend's broken 460 to rip the inner screens out while keeping my original intact so I may do that if it opens it up as much as reported. Awesome mic. Good as any and better than a lot I've heard.
