I'm searching for a good pair of mics for recording overheads, acustic intruments and percussions. I've read many reviews on several condensers and ribbons mics but unfortunately I had no choices to audition them. What I need it's a mic with no excessive colorations and no hyped high end.

What do you think about the Akg 414c ? Other mics or suggestion in the same price range?

414 is clean...isn't hyped but it IS very bright.

Peluso CEMC6 have been discussed quite a bit here lately. A nice, clean sounding SDC with interchangeable capsules. Stereo pair comes with nice accessories.

Shure SM81s might be an option as well.

If you have the budget and a good pre, Earthworks are extremely clean and coherent.

CEMC6 is very nice on overheads and acoustic instruments. Neutral, not hyped.

ADK TL is transparent and not hyped.... like a 414 but not as bright.

Groove Tubes GT-44 is a great all around pair for rock overheads, amps, percussion, acoustic instruments, etc.

I have these three pair and they serve me very well.

What's your budget (like transfiguration asked)?

I mean, if you have enough to spend (and are willing to spend it) on something like a pair of 414's, than your budget isn't too much of a problem and there are plenty of options - just gotta figure out what you want and need (but that's luxury Wink).

I have a pair of 414's and love them for piano. They tend to smear the cymbals sound together. I am not a big fan of that sound.

For a really good kit sound the AKG C480B-ULS are phenomenal. I have never had to touch the EQ when using these mik's. I have the cardioid, omni and hyper capsules.

5***** stars on OH drums.

414 TLII, KSM32's, AT-4050's or even the cheapo Apex 180's all seem to work from what I've tried myself.

This choice has a lot to do with the height and reflective properties of your room's ceiling. Omni mics will sometimes work better than cardioids, and, as some of the guys have already indicated, LDCs will sometimes sound better than SDCs.

Amazingly, in my 8' high room with a texture-painted drywall ceiling I've been able to successfully use Oktava MK012s (card SDCs), Behringer ECM8000s (omni SDCs), Audio Technica AT4051s (card SDCs) and even MXL V67s (card LDCs). I once tried a Rode NTK as a mono overhead and it was really sweet as well.

Yeah, Bazz has it with the Shure KSM32s too. Good mics, unhyped. Large diaphragm.

No ceiling acoustic treatment? I find Omnis to be less friendly in poor acoustic environments, especially untreated ceilings in bedroom/living room size spaces.
Ive had good luck with GT33s, at4050s, Bluebirds, AT4041s, SM81s, Audix and some very nice results with a pair of Earthworks Omnis. Mostly depends on the song, player, drums then the acoustics and finally the mics onward to the preamps. You gotta take care of the ceilings and side wall reflections before doing anything.

that's my second favorite song of all time...everything else is tied for first though.

I used to use (a decade ago) 414s or 4050s on OH, and could always get decent results. Since then I've acquired a number of mics which (IMO) took the sound to another level. They all sound different, but I'd use any of them in a pinch - Royer SF-12, Gefell M300s, Gefell M295s, Josephson e22s, Earthworks QTC-1s.

Shure KSM 32s are my favorite overhead mic at any price point. Techhnically they are medium diaphram condensors.

Great on lots of other things as well. They beat out far more expensive mics very often.
