Right now I'm using an RME Multiface II (which I'm happy with) and a Behringer ADA8000 connected ADAT for an additional 8 channels. I rarely use the pre's in the ADA8000 but need it mostly for the DA since I prefer mixing out of my DAW and through my console.
I'd like to upgrade the Berhinger nd I'm looking at a Digimax FS which would be an all in one solution since it has the pre's in it or possibly a used Lucid ADA 8824 and then pick up some other pre's as needed. Budget is kind of tight right now so looks like there's not too many other options.
I guess my question is whether or not the DA in the Digimax or the Lucid is that much of an improvement over the Berhinger?
Or maybe I should just save my pennies and plan on replacing all 16 channels with a lynx or Apogee unit. But that probably wouldn't happen for awhile .

I have two channels of Lucid AD and a Behringer ADA8000. I think my Lucid sounds pretty nice, but I think I would wait if things were tight. The only exception would be if I got a great deal on a used unit and could sell it for my money back.

The DA in the Lucid would be better but I seriously doubt you could tell much difference in the ADA8000 and the Digimax (except for the mic pres). I too would save and wait until you can do a serious upgrade.

Yes, although the Digimax is tempting I'm thinking also that it's not going to be that much of an upgrade. Still might consider the Lucid though and then maybe replace the Multiface down the road a bit. That would probably make the most sense and be affordable right now.

How many channels do you record at once (MOST of the time)?

You might consider starting by just adding a 2 chan A/D like a Mytek or Lavry. Then add D/A later. This way you aren't compromising audio quality with a "Lateral Upgrade".

I use an RME Fireface and ADA8000 but most of my recording is 1 or 2 ch at a time. I added a UA A/D/A to my setup. Rocks.

Yeah I know what you are saying. I guess half the time it's one or two at a time but I've been tracking a few bands lately and have a few more lined up. Then I need usually 8-12 tracks depending on the set-up. Mostly just doing demos for them, nothing that has to sound real polished right now just good enough to get them jobs. I have 8 really good channels of pre's feeding the multiface but then there's the ADA8000 that I need to use for the additional channels. Just feel like that's the weakest part of my tracking and mixdown hence the idea of replacing it with the Lucid or Digimax.
