Well, if I can get anywhere close the recordings that you have made with a pair of 414s, I will be one happy camper.

I don't think it takes balls; I'm just too old and lazy to figure out what it really takes to be a good home recording engineer. Once I made that decision, it just comes down to getting rid of whatever does not support my lazy man's way of doing things. I can tell you for a fact the Melodyne is going. I don't have enough days left on this planet to really dig into that one, powerful as it may be. The only reason I hesitate on the Digi 002 Rack is because the Mbox will not open wave files if I record them at 24/96 on the flash recorder.

What have you whittled your studio down to now?

I plead the 5th amendment on that one Frown

I'm still deciding. With the exception of a modestly priced ribbon mic, I'm thinking I won't buy or sell anything for a while.

I have a AKAI DPS24, a Fireface800, an ADA8000, an HV3, a Lucid ADA, a respectable array of mics, a couple of mediocre effects, and a decent pair of monitors. I'm still sorting out what I need and what I don't need. In many ways, the DPS and the FF800 are a nice compliment, each excelling at certain things. Of course, I could make good recordings with either if I decide to get rid of one. The HV3 and Lucid are a nice preamp AD combo. Sometimes I see them as a luxury, and other times I see them as indispensable if I want to eventually make pro sounding recordings. Time will tell.
