The big benefit to me of working in LA would have been that I know my room and my toys, but Ryk Studio in Iceland is no junkyard. The most important reason was that every aspect of Producing, Recording and Mixing was a equal collaboration with Albert and I. He sat in front of the console more while we were tracking and I sat in front of it more while mixing, but it was all equal, and we had already paid for my flight.

Back in LA and trying to rest up a bit. It think tomorrow or the next day i will have a chance to check out the mixes in my own room to see how we did. I ended up mixing most of the record on NS-10s which I had not done in a while and I really enjoyed it (and I hope my listening in my own room will not convince me other wise.)

I had such an awesome time working on the record. The band is great and it was really really cool working with Albert. I was a little nervous about producing with some one else but it worked out really well. Albert is extremely talented (of course I attribute that to him being a one time Boot Camp student), but we also have really similar tastes, complimentary skill sets and best of all we are pretty evenly matched at Pool (both pretty bad), which made breaks more fun. I wish my budgets had enough money to hire him to work on all the records I do.

I am going to get mastering scheduled with Stephen Marsh in the next two weeks. I start a new projects tomorrow and have to find a break in that record.

The funny thing I remember about the Discharge show was Cal complaining about how he was getting too old for punk rock. I asked him how old he was and he said "nineteen." That was still a couple years older than we were. Time moves fast when you're a teenager.

Of course for us, opening for Minor Threat was a pretty big deal, but it was probably routine for you.

Finally an update.

The album is finally mastered!! It was mastered by Stephen Marsh in Hollywood. http://www.stephenmarshmastering.com It would have been done earlier but my schedule and Stephen's schedule have been really crazy since I got back from Iceland.

I am really stoked with everything. We sent the masters off to the label in Iceland, so its out of my hands now. I am really excited to finally get the finished release in my hands, because I really want people to hear this.

I like it. Good vocal sound from those 57s! I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Which song has the G tuned rock?

The G tuned rock is in the bridge of a song called Virgo.

The album just came out in Iceland and unfortunately I could not make the CD release show, but word has it that is was a great show and that a few hundred people showed up, mostly because the first single is getting a lot of radio play.

There are some pics of the show here
