Thanks John.

Here are a a few pics of my cab

So the way I understand it if I hook up 1 speaker to each side I can just connect my amp to the right input & use the right speaker only or connect a (dummy) cable to the right input & the amp on the left input & use the left speaker only or connect just to the mono input & have them both in parallel. Am I right?

So right now if I hook up my EVM12L to the right input & leave the other with no speaker connected I'll be fine?

So I've installed a single 8ohm EVM12L-CL in my Bogner OS 2x12 & it sounds as smooth as I thought it should. Just amazing how much difference a cabinet can make!

Also, you might only need one.
They ROCK as a single 12 with Bogner and Divided by 13 heads.

Hi John,

You were right on! Single EVM12L-CL I have now just rocks with every amp I have (with exception of the Uber), it's so good that I haven't even been using my v30s since I've got it. It sounds awful big, full, wide & without that midrange spike that v30s have. Bogner cab, EVM12L & Royer is the most perfect tone I've heard recorded by far.

I'm thinking of the black label version for the other side of the 2x12 now. If it sounds better than what I already have I find it even hard to imagine.

Ah yeah...

A friend of mine just loaned me an old Boogie Mini 1x12 with an 'original' (90's) EVm12 in it.

It ROCKS. I'm going to have to get my own soon (with a bigger cab though).

I'm not surprised that you're loving it. I have one of the EV's that John mentions in my MKIV - mine is the black label - and always thought that it sounded fantastic on overdrive sounds,as well as clean, where it excels I'd venture to say.

The lowed focus can't be touched by V30's that I've tried and I find them to be flabby by comparison. I think I've even mentioned here before that I really don't care for the V30's, sans a couple of sounds, and never understood why they've become the standard for metal? Must be a ground swell thing. For classic rock sounds, I love the low wattage stuff, where your low/mids need that crunchy, slightly fizzy breakup, but for metal, I don't like the speaker distortion to amp distortion ratio: Too high in favour of the speaker.

For clean, country stuff, the EV is so fast and snappy, especially with a hi power amp. It just chimes away.

Jake E Lee mentioned that he loved the way these speakers broke up, in an article I read years ago.

I'd hate to move a 4x12 loaded with these though Eek

When I had the mesa thiele with EVM12L (original) I liked it in the room, never cared for it recorded, it was so harsh. Bogner OS cabinet fixed that. The new one I have is the reissue EVM12L & I can't hear noticeable difference if any at all in the way the reissue acts compared to the original. Some folks claim that the really old ones sound better, but I honestly don't believe them.

Agreed, cleans are fabulous. I also want to try the GK100 celestion when I have the chance, Peter Stapfer from Diezel has been recommending it for a while now for recording.
