Not sure about the specific recording chain for that song, but apparently the producer, Mikal Blue has a really nice studio (Revolver Recordings) and has the Neve 8128 that was used to record Thriller, along with a bunch of other great gear. Not sure if this helps...

Wow, that mic's really in there on that guitar, eh? And, what's this about not using too much foam?

Anyhoo, thanks for the tip - I picked up the album, and it's cute. I wonder what the chain and processing was for the vocal, though - sometimes I'm getting a bit of a telephony kind of sound to her voice.

I actually hear it when I play the store-bought CD in the car (my car stereo is my primary reference, so I know it's not the stereo).

I'll have to check at home so I can crank it up ... it's very subtle, but there seems to be some kind of processing going on there.

The "telephony"...is Neumann midrange crushed beyond belief through a compressor. I'd guess La2a if I had to venture a guess.

I'll pay someone to take that CD off my hands. In these dire days of labels dying, I figured I'd take a chance on a catchy ditty...yuck.

Why is it that 90% of what I listen to is female vox...yet whenever there's a female singer who gets a lot of airplay, it's inevitably one I think sucks?

I'll go with that, Jamie ... the first thing I heard when I spun it up was, "Holy crap, that 2 buss is hammered!" Sounds like your usual louder-is-better mentality of today.

Sorry you don't like her, but I see your point - she doesn't have the soul of your typical faves. I found her disposable, but (as I said) cute.

Cool, that looks like an innertube MM2000 with a differnt head basket, on guitar. I've never heard one, or read anything about that mic. But I love Mag-Lite Flashlights!

Never heard of this chick before, I guess I live under a rock Wink I was engaged by the lyric, thought it was a "cute" diddy that would really appeal to the kiddies, especially young girls.

Nice tone - based on a MONO youtube example - but no way I'd buy this stuff. Even in mono, you can hear how crushed it is, but big whoop; what isn't these days in "pop".

Shes cute but has a voice I've heard, or heard emulated, on countless myspace pages et al.

Because more often than not, you're probably looking for what you don't like more than what you like. But I ain't gonna say you're a bit of a cynic, Pops Wink

This is interesting. My wife really likes this chick. I guess she's easy to sing along to. I think she sounds like a few others as well. And while I'm not a fan, I'd take her over the other currently popular style of singing through the nose that I keep hearing on my wife's station.

I guess is that's really the issue. As a consumer, if that's all you hear, then it doesn't stand out as "bad."

Mikal Blue who produced "Bubbly" is my new FAV ARTIST!!! Not only is he a truly talented songwriter and amazing singer, but he also produced some of my most fav amazing tracks One Republic, Augustana, Five for Fighting, and Jason Reeves! I saw him on tour with Brendan James. He has so much soul and love in his songs, that it makes me melt every time I hear him sing. I can’t wait for his new album “GOLD”. www.amazon.com/Gold-Mikal-Blue/dp/B0012KSUVS/ref=sr_1_1...id=1205069572&sr;=1-1 If you like Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, or anyone with great lyrics, passion and an amazing voice then you will LOVE him!! Check out music &vids; at www.mikalblue.com BTW - his name is prounced like Michael Smile

Spam aside, there are some good acts there.

Follow-up: I have to say that this album has grown on me. Like before, still say it's not reinventing the genre (does every new artist need too?), but the tunes are catchy. I'm likin it.

And my 6-YO daughter LOVES it ... so, there you go.
