Just trying to get an idea where everyone spends their time and money?

No to radio. FOr going on 15 years, though--not a change.

Internet radio...no.

Satellite...good station on XM called Acoustic Cafe, I think...plays everything I own about a year behind me. Wink

"use the internet"? To talk to you fuckers? A good number of hours, probably....I'm not sure I want to know.

Network TV--recorded...probably a total of 4-5 hours week-during new seasons.

Newspaper/print mags---rarely. Get the weekend here-mostly recycle.

Intenet magazines--oxymoron, IMO. BS. Nope.

Movies--I usually hit one a month (theatre). 2 more at "pay per view" on cable. I should get more in the theatre. MsPop is 100% to blame for that number being low.

CDs...avg 50 per year. Slowing down the last 2 or so...majors are slipping.

DVDs...rarely since PPV got so massive. I'll buy really "great" flix--usualy the ones I saw in the theatre.

Video Games...I have a PS2, and a PC...I tend to buy one every year or so. And not finish it. I don't find the time it takes to dedicate like I did in my "non music" period.

Do you listen to AM/FM radio? How many hours per week average?

After 9/11 I started listening to conservative talk radio in the car for about a year. Finally got sick of it. We do listen to a classic pop radio station when Max is eating his meals in the kitchen. He actually requests it. He'll say, "102.9!" Maybe an hour a day.

Do you listen to internet radio? What stations? How many hours per week average?

For about the last three years I listen to internet radio almost exclusively while I'm
at my computer. Very often it is http://di.fm/ Probably have it on 10-20 hours a week. I've spent quite a bit of time listening at http://www.iacmusic.com in the last couple of months - mostly to the various Chill Zone stations I've programmed.

Do you listen to satellite radio? What stations? How many hours per week average?

We have Sirius in one of our cars, and are getting it installed in the other car, and also
getting a Sirius receiver for the house. Often play Howard 100, Kids stations, and Comedy channels. We're in the car around 3-5 hours per week.

Do you use the internet? How many hours per week average?

Yep. Probably on it 6-8 hours a day.

Do you watch network television? What stations? How many hours per week average?

I almost never watch the networks anymore. I do still like programs like 20/20, 60 Minutes and Dateline, and will catch them if they happen to be on. Maybe 2 hours a week.

From what sources do you get most of your news?

I use Google News a few times a day. It's become my main source for news. I've given up on channels like CNN, Fox, MSNBC.

Do you watch cable television? What stations? How many hours per week average?

Yep. Mostly channels like Discovery Science and Animal Planet. Maybe 10 hours a week average.

Do you watch pay movie channels like HBO and Showtime? What stations? How many hours per week average?

Yes. Often HBO shows like Sopranos, 6FU, and Big Love.

Do you read paper newspapers? Which ones? How often?

No. Never. Not in the last few years.

Do you read paper magazines? Which ones? How often?

My wife gets People Magazine, and I'll thumb through that when I'm in the john. I get TapeOp. That's it.

Do you read online magazines/newspapers? Which ones? How often?

Yep. New York Times. salon.com. But I mostly read online mazine articles that are linked off of Google News.

Do you go to the theater to watch movies? How much in the last year have you spent at the movies?

I haven't been to a movie in a couple of years. In fact the last time was with Jazzooo in San Diego in the fall of '03.

Do you rent videos/DVD's? How often?

No. Not for many years.

Do you buy CD's? How much have you spend in the last year on CD's?

I've bought two CD's in the last five years.

Do you buy and play video games? How much have you spent on them in the last year?

Nope. Don't buy or play video games.

Mine's simple:

No TV whatsoever. Pulled the plug about 4 years ago and have been far happier ever since. My TV is just a monitor for watching rented movies now.

Once in a great while we hit a film in the theaters, and usually regret the waste of money for such a pile of shit. Mostly it's lots of rentals though. And the last couple years I've been buying up all the old VHS tapes that all the stores are practically giving away.

I'm mildly addicted to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. No other video games though.

I get all my news online from a wide variety of sources.

I never buy new CDs - always used, mostly through amazon. And I buy lots of used cassettes and LPs at the store.

I listen to the local indie radio station now and then, when they've got the bluegrass show or the blues show on. Otherwise no radio, regular or Internet.

I subscribe to the New Yorker and the Sun and the Oxford American. The only three decent magazines in existence as far as I'm concerned.

Ha! I knew I was forgetting something.

I got a serious reading jag for about 10 years - from around '88-'98 - and read well over 4000 books. I used to have a library of 2500+ books. I've read most of the classic novels - from Hemingway to Hess and from Dickens to Dostoevsky, lots of sci-fi [huge Asimov fan], and quite a bit on philosophy and comparative religion. Got buried in some funny occult and esoteric stuff for a few years - when I had more time on my hands.

I used to often have a book lying on an open dictionary, and would look up any word I didn't understand. Picked that little trick up from L Ron Hubbard. : ) But over the last few years, I use Google as a spellchecker and will look up words on the net.

I did read "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer not too long ago. It's about that group of people who went up Mt. Everest and ran into a bad storm. I'd known Sandy Pittman a bit when I was in NYC back in the '80's. Pretty intense read.

Actually, I've been thumbing through "The Single Malt Whisky Companion" over the last few days.

I've got "Godel, Escher, Bach" sitting open by my couch, and will read through a few pages when I lie down. I've had my nose in that book off and on for probably fifteen years. And there's a great book that almost always puts me to sleep, "On the Sensations of Tone" by Hermann Helmholtz. Great stuff about music and tone - it's just very "heady". I'll read a page or two and doze off.

We still do have around 1000 books here [none out of my other 2500+-book library that's long gone]. We probably do buy 20-30 books a year still.
