These are PC VST and are VERY good (and free with a donation request).
http://www.modernplugins.in-tw.com/ Everything you would want in EQ's and Compressors...SSL, Neve, Fairchild, La-2a, Daking, Thermionic, Pultec, 1176, DBX 160 The 1176 is a little on the 'clean side' but they are ALL very much worth a look and I will be making a donation. jmp |

Wow, I had only heard bad things about those but I guess I'll have to check them out. I sitting pretty with plugins these days but I have a buddy just starting out with an even lower budget thane. So I like to scout out the good freware/donationware and send it to him.

OK, I'm an idiot. I can't seem to install these to save my life. I tried once before when i.Combs posted them awhile back and couldn't seem to do it then.

you don't actually have to "install" them. Just copy to your VST folder.

I think that's what I'm trying to do. I save on the usb drive, go to my room and stick it in my computer, then extract it to my effects folder. That's how I do it with every thing else, am I doing it wrong? Lance |

Here is something to try
Go to your c:\reaper\effects directory, which I believe should be the one, make a new directory "antress" & copy files in there. After go to your reaper preference\plugins\vst & hit "rescan directory". If this doesn't help search for "reaper-vstplug-ins.ini" file & post it here, I'll see if I can do anything. |

OK, so I got them to work with side benefit of taking care of a problem I had with duplicate plugins. However, they seem to hit my cpu pretty hard. Admittedly my computer is old and underpowered but one instance of the 1176 took a 35% cpu hit. which is a little much for me. Like I said I'm sitting pretty good with my ua plugs, but if you guys recomend them I'l pass them on to my friend. By the way, I couldn't seem to figure out the stacked knobs on the Neves, no matter what I did only the bottom one would turn.

On a side note, While I was testing these plugs I also tested the new stillwell audio plugs. If you all haven't seen these yet the're definitely worth a look. The're not free but thair priced very reasonably and the demos are uncrippled so you can actually use them in a project to see if you like them. The're also really light on the cpu. Just thought I'd mention them as I really thought highly of them.

Wow.
The compressors don't excite me that much but that Black Dragon/Pultec thing is freakin' fun. Chris |

These have been slammed on other sites as synthedit plugs, So I didn't try them.
They sure look cool, now that I've heard a favorable report I'll have to give them a try. Thanks!!! Still Learning, One mistake at a time |

I missed these plugs first time around because I didn't have a PC.
apparently they have beeen changed a lot since the first release. Check out the Daking FET compressor and the DBX 160 in particular. I'll be using them a lot. I have already compared the Neves, Daking and DBX to URS and UAD versions and they totally hold up. These Modern Neves are considerably better for me than the URS neves. They respond differently from the UAD, but they sound good next to them. The Modern La-2a sounded nice on Bass and the SSL's worked well on Acoustic GTR's and the Daking FET on a Drum subgroup, DBX 160 on Kick and Snare... My computer is really fast so they seem very CPU friendly to me. I'm running a mix with at least 30 of them going and haven't noticed a CPU hit at all. |

I uploaded them and tested them on a drum track
I noted the Neve plugs dual concentric controls are not smooth with infinite variable adjustment. The outer control jumps as though it is segmented, and the inside control is hard to grab but does operate smoother then the outer control. Is this Normal??? The V73 was killer on the drum track Still Learning, One mistake at a time |

The outer frequency controls are 'detented' on original Neves so that is normal.
The Gain knobs in the middle do move smoothly. To grab that part you click on the Top of the knob which is confusing but I am getting used to it. I had a wierd problem today with the "Fairchild" having some buzzy distortion. Didn't have time to troubleshoot so I just turned it off. jmp |
