G'day all, and a happy new year of music making to all (better late than never).
I need to export an LE file to Cubase. As neither the cubase user or myself have ever done it before I thought I would ask at the best place for answers. I really appreciate any contributions. Regards Sights I woke up this morning - WOW! |

I think the export depends on the version of LE...you want Broadcast WAVs if possible.
To import to Cubase, you FIle>Import>Audiofile>(pick your multiple files)>select "to different tracks">then once they're in there, select them all and right click>"move to--origin", and they will go right to all their respective timestamps. If it's an old LE that doesn't use broacast WAV, you need to render them from zero...then, you put the cursor at zero before going through the import procedure. The "move to origin" likely won't be needed. |

Thanks pop, I have LE 7.3.1 which does comply with the BWF standard (as you obviously know), and as the session in question has originated in LE it will conform to BWF. My problem is how to export it so that cuebase can read each track with the same format as LE. Hope I'm explaining this right Thanks for you patience Sights I woke up this morning - WOW! |

How do you mean format? Cubase can read Bwavs and just about anything else - format-wise. By format do you mean stuff like track Automation? 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, see the man, see the man... |

I recently had to do this from Pro Tools(at another Studio) to Cubase(my place). I did not do the hands on, and have yet to receive the files, but it sounds like it worked.
Warning!! do this to a copy of the file not the "actual" file. Delete all unwanted tracks. Create a Region at bar 1 starting at 00.00.00 to the end of the longest file. That will give each track the same starting point. Pro Tools’ Consolidate command, to consolidate, select all the audio from bar 1 to end of track (probably best to do this in grid mode), and shortcuts are shit+alt+3 to consolidate, and then shift+apple+k to export. That will ignore all plugin settings though, so if you want to include any processing, you'll need to either process using audiosuite versions of your plugins, or bounce to disk each channel at a time (if you're using aux sends on any tracks). Warning do this to a copy of the file not the "actual" file. Then export to disc. I do not have Pro Tools but this was how it was explained to me to. Hopefully a Pro Tools user may confirm, or correct. Still Learning, One mistake at a time |

I'm confused by "format".
24/44(or whatever sample rate) Broadcast WAV IS the format. It carries a timestamp that will ensure timing sync between the WAVs. Hopefully you're not looking to bring over the mixer settings/automation. I'm pretty sure Cubase imports OMF, but I don't know how accurrate it is, as I've never felt any need to bring that kind of data from one app to another. |

Sorry for the confusion guys, but never having used Cubase before, I was told that it could only import a specific file format from PT LE. This is the first time that I have gone to an outside studio and the Sound guy was not able to be contacted for a couple of days - hence my query on SF. Any confusion has come from the misinformation that I was given (nice its not my fault for a change). Hey Pop, you were right. The sound guy came back and WAV is fine, so it OMF. Thanks Dutch, the Region and Consolidate also worked a treat. Sights I woke up this morning - WOW! |
