This is for anyone who might know and particularly kid-surf with your fairly complex DAW system:

My wife just purchased a new G5 and is retiring her G4 primarily because of the incredible noise these things make. Frankly I've never heard a computer as loud as this (which I know is normal for that model). Anyway, I may be able to talk her into letting me have it for a secondary system in my studio. My primary system is PC. Does anyone know of a way to reduce the noise in these things other than getting one of those ridiculously priced iso boxes? I'm ok with replacing a few components if this would help – I'd like to know what's feasible here.

Thanks!

Thanks kid-surf. I'll keep checking and see if I can locate a tweak or two that might help. I can put it in an adjacent room but that will require some remodeling of an already tight space.

Ahh, you got the leaf blower G4 Dual Mirrored Doors, right?

These are loud as hell, mainly because of the loud fan in the power supply.

There are solutions for this, I remember several replacement fans, I'll see if I can dig up the links again...

HI

I had the same problem with my PC tower and was able to take the sound level down to zip by purchaseing a new power supply and fans for both the case and the CPU. I still had a slight air noise so I put it in a home made vented quiet box. If your interested I will get you the brand name of the power supply and fans. There the same components that Sweetwater puts in there machines.
