My question is about Nuendo 3 and using vst instruments.Heres what I have been doing so far,Ill load a midi file then Ill load say Addictive Drums and Broomstick Bass. Now when i load those vst's it will give me a new mixer channel for each kit piece that I can change individually I will then send all those drum channels to a single group channel. Now what I want to know is how would I take all those channel with the vst sound and be able to use them with the the vst sounds but not have to keep the midi file and the vst's open to reduce the hit on the cpu,but I still would want each individual kit piece in its own track to be able to apply different plugins and such.Or is this even possible?Thx ahead of time.

Hi Rabidscoobie,

Right on the same panel where you add your VSTi instruments you need to find "freeze" button next to VSTi list dropdown. That's what you are looking for.

Thx thats what I was looking to do.Just another question,I assume that when I freeze the instrument that in order to make plugin changes ect..that i just re-enable but when I freeze again will that overwrite the previous freeze edits? And if it does destroy the previous whats the best way around this?Thx.

Ok np.I did like you said...hit the freeze vsti button,it then makes audio files in the freeze edits folder. Now lets say I want to go back and change the way that vst sounds so unfreeze the vst make my changes then I wanna freeze the vst again just like before but with the new changes, now if i hit freeze at this point it should make the audio files again in the freeze edits folder, will it destroy the previous by overwriting the new freeze or does it just make new files.I hope I explained the well enough...or at least makes some sense...lol.Thx again.

Honestly I'm not sure. I'm guessing for some mysterious reason you want it to keep the old track, ha?

Well id only wanna keep the old to maybe compare to the new.But anyways I figured it out on my own.I just started a dummy test project and did some playing. If you already have freeze edits stored and then go and do more edits it will ask if you wanna do a "New Version" or "Overwrite".Thx for the help,I needed it.I knew it was possible just didnt know how.

Possibly, after modifying the version you are working on, click on file and "Save As"
Rename the file Same name#2 and you should have not altered the old files, but created a new file under a new name.
Your old file will not change unless you save changes to that particular named file.

I do this in Cubase frequently without any problems, so I would think it would be worth a try in Nuendo. Try it with a backed up file first

Good to know. Thanks for following up with your answer. I understood your question, and didn't know myself. I just don't have any need to freeze tracks...since I don't do the audio tracking in Cubase.
