I just saw a glimpse of the new stuff Sascha (of DigitalFishPhones) is designing for the upcoming Samplitude v9 and man do these look sweet!
http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=1&subItem=1

Looks like Magix is pulling out all of the stops for v9 with a new audio engine, a slew of new features, and even redesigning current plugins (the AM Track and AM Pulse). Should be a great upgrade. Yay

Looks kind of nice, doesn't it - does this mean you'll be holding off on Arts Acoustic Reverb purchase?

I think it will be a very good upgrade!

Indeed it does. Wink It sounds like Sascha's very excited about these new plugins, so I think it'll be worth waiting for. Yay

oooo

i hope they sound as good as they look.

I've got SAM 7 right now, and I might be able to upgrade in the next few months. I hope it's all worth it.

You might even be able to save for more than a few months - Magix is not know for their speedy update releases!

Well, a friend of mine has SAM 8, and is having problems with an Ivory Piano plug. He contacted Ivory and Magix with no results so far. (The plug works in Sonar)

He said he thinks that Magix isn't really interested in fixing the old one if a new one is on the way. Maybe he's right.

I've heard of some problems with Ivory/Samplitude 8 as well but wouldn't pretend to understand all that might be involved. I think they work pretty hard at Samplitude.

They released the v.7 update after ther release of v.8.

Hope your friends Ivory problems get solved, though.

I think I'd be happy even if they sound half as good as they look. Big Grin

From what I have heard, V9 has the most features and upgrades since I've been using Samp (since v6). Someone on the Samplitude forum translated this from a German recording magazine.

hybrid audio engine - unique parallelrunning & changing of audio-modes
economy tracks- best audioquality and stability through big prebuffer, for lowest cpu-consumption
performance tracks - realtime-workflow and full power through smallest latencys, for best monitoring

new: advanced restoration - spectral cleaning, deesser
amphibia tube channel strip - tube with character
variverbpro - pefect, classic studio hall for all cases
score editor - including combined and extended midi-editing
track editor - management of global tracksettings
track fx presets - complete effektsettings and vst-instruments hands on
and more: autojamsession, audioID, extended controllersupport, aac(+) multichannelsupport for vst-fx and much more....

Also, it sounds like a "beat detective" feature called timewarp will be included in a patch for v9. It won't be here for the initial v9 release but it should (hopefully) be coming in a later patch.

I read on German website that it is supposed to be released in September.... Now the question is what year? Wink I haven't seen an official release date, but V9 has been shown at an AES show in Paris, so hopefully it is nearing completion.

if they sound half as good as they look, I'll be happy, too. From what I understand, those are included in v9, right? I hope it's going to be released this September.

Yes, those are included in V9. The AM Track and AM Pulse plugins are currently in V8, so thoes particular plugins on his site will be upgrades for the existing plugins (both in sound and in appearance).

There is also another set of plugins currently in V8 called Vintage Effects Suite (also designed by Sascha).
http://www.samplitude.com/de/v82_feat_vintage_fx.htm

So if you upgrade from v7, you'll get these plugins as well.... V9 should be a giant leap from V7. Smile I actually skipped the upgrade to V7, since money is always an issue and I never heard anything about it that really sparked my interest, so I stayed at v6 and then went to V8 when it came out. Since I came from V6, V8 was a very big upgrade for me, and now V9 is looking to top that one. Yay

Woot! I asked Sascha for some sound clips of the Vari-Verb on the Samplitude forum and he delivered! Yay

The last clip with guitar is awesome!

I had an opportunity to fool around with V9 at NAMM quite a bit...and yes, they have included THE thing I've been clamoring about for years - real time external effects (latency compensated) for the mixinfile feature...the new reverbs are stunning in sound and ease of use, drag n drop effects from track to track, and a bunch of other killer stuff...

I was informed by Synthax the September release is still a go...and the upgrade from V8 will be the same as the upgrade from 7 - 8...$250...

The more I hear about the new version the more I can't wait for it to come out. Yay I've been dying for drag n drop effects!!!

The compensation for external effects doesn't really effect me as I have no outboard gear (yet) but I know that a lot of people have been wanting it.

It's almost like they're taking everyone's suggestions over the last several years and somehow are managing to do nearly all of them in this one upgrade. I heard that there is also supposed to be multi-processor support introduced in a 9.x patch along with the timewarp thing for drum editing.

I must say I'm blown away by what I have heard about this release. With all of the new stuff they are adding I will seriouly be amazed if they can pull it off without any major bugs. Waytogo

BTW, how was the stability when you used it? Did you encounter any bugs/issues while using it (or anythind you wish they would have done differently)? What kind of things did you fool around with on it? What do you mean by "a bunch of other killer stuff"? Did you try out the other effects (like Phibia and the new and improved AM Track and Pulse plugins)? C'mon man give details! Big Grin

Some of the other goodies...

- Track manager seemed easier to understand
-Gone is the POS reverb...great sounding internal verb now instead of that thing they had since 6...
-Mixer skins so much easier to see
- It was Tom's machine, so you know it was stable...but thee again,
i always thought it was anyway
- Multi processor support in a future release of V9 (not the initial release)
- Did not notice any bugs...things jsut seemed to look better, run smoother, and so forth...

I should note Tom Sailor's laptop may have been a ruse...he could have had multi synched Cray XMPs running behind the scenes... Coffee

Tekker, as you may (or may not) know, I have been an OTB guy for seemingly ever...BUT the inclusion of the new reverbs, the ability to mixinfile with external effects, etc...has caused me to put the halt on our 2007 gear budget...I may be becoming an ITB guy after seeing and hearing for myself Samp 9 ...

If that's any kind of product endorsement, then so be it...but we are now seriously considering controllers instead of continued use or upgrades of our existing consoles.

Nope, I didn't know that.... I thought you were a Samplitude-er, since I've seen you talk about Samp before. So do you have Samplitude but still prefer doing everything OTB? Or have you only used the Samplitude demo?

I've been a Samp guy since the earliest release of 6, but still preferred actual mixing with something that had lots of knobs, etc...rarely used the internal fx, opting for hardware eq, compression when needed, and mixing (essentially using it as a glorified tape machine)...when 7 came along, there were tons of improvements in the sonics....then 8 appeared with the AM suite, improved EQ, and stem/subgroups....now with 9, the consoles may be saying adios...(or traded out for a summing unit)...I've at least tried every conveivable aspect of DAW, but have always felt like I was coming up short...still not into vsti, but it appears that V9 will allow the power to get it done without too much hardware on the backend (the place that DAWs in general IMO have always fallen short.)

From what i saw and heard, V9 knocks it out of the park...

Wow, so you have actually been using Samp all along, but just haven't felt that it was good enough to replace your analog gear... From looking at your site, it you've got quite of a bit of gear too. Wink I guess that really says something about V9. Waytogo
