I played with it early this morning for about a half hour and I really like the look and feel of it so far...very elegant and more MAC-like. I'm really curious to try a few things I've found like what seems to be a timing correction plug (channel insert) for audio! And a new vintage modeled compressor.

Ha! Ya the prospect is pretty exciting and that Apogee rig gets me way more excited than working a PTHD system Smile

Heres some SS' my buddy sent me just messing around with it.

Much cleaner for sure, and I love seeing the input / output faders for the track on the same screen. I see a "bounce" icon there, too.

I'm still a noob with Logic, but am looking very forward to woodsheddin this program.

And wow..only $500! I tell ya, Mac is going hell bent on their marketing and clearly trying to take the boots to Cubase 4 at this price point. Shit, we paid $1200 for 7.0 Eek

So what are we looking at price point wise...

New loaded Mac G5:_______

2 Apogee and Ensemble: ________
(everyone needs 32 ins, right? Smile )

Logic: ___________

Compare to a PTHD2 rig, what are the cost factors?

And does the Logic 8 still keeps the Environment and its editor? Screensets?

Can't wait to hear what you think about the Apogee rig. Screen shots looks real nice, are they default?

You are going to die when you hear how great the Apogee converters are. I got the 16X series and they are light years ahead of the PT converters.
Enjoy!

I'm not sure but bet they are. A friend of mine that just upgraded took them for me.

Jeff - I am pretty excited about the prospect. It's not a 100% yet but the producer I work with has been really on a roll lately buying stuff - he just picked up a pr Genelec 8020's and an Ensemble for use on the road for eg - and has stated that his intention is to get a full blown Symphony rig, sooner than later...so I'm keepin my fingers crossed Smile

Looks pretty sweet. Except they made it look visually more like DrabTools.

Have to agree with Pop, the shots do look a bit unexciting to me, but it is a very subjective thing. Blue loves the look, and no doubt so will many others.
The point is that Logic is a great program for some regardless of how it looks, so is Cubase, so is PT, so is Nuendo, so is DP, so is ... They are all great at doing what they do, it's just a matter of which one you click with. But hey! aint it great we have one of them to play with.

I woke up this morning - WOW!

A good friend just got it on a Macbook pro. One Ensemble. He called me raving about it for an hour yesterday, said it's way easier, more elegant than previous setups...said even I could run it in a matter of minutes. Big Grin

that's my second favorite song of all time...everything else is tied for first though.

I've been considering Logic 8, just to give it the old college try, especially since they seemed to address a few of the things I disliked about it. But I've disliked the Logic experience so much overall that I've been dragging my heels--doesn't hurt that I'm down in Mexico till the end of November and there's no cheap and easy way to get it here.

Then yesterday, a friend down here in Mexico handed me a cracked version, knowing me well enough to know that if I liked it, I would definitely buy it.

First impressions--wow, about 10 times easier to navigate. It did everything I wanted to in my 15 minute test--I could do punch ins and they worked without me changing any settings--unlike Logic 7.2. It's a one-page interface now--I'm not sure how that will play out but I suspect I'll like it. I'll fool with it over the next week and try to crash it--7.2 had been crashing a lot the last few times I used it.

And then, if I'm not disappointed, I'll buy it. If not, it comes off my computer. You have my word.

Well, even with my tiny little tests--just did another one--I still got an "Error trying to synchronize midi and audio" error message. I wasn't even recording, just playing an internal organ sound while listening to a drum loop I'd recorded earlier. Still, it only happened once in 15 minutes. Wink

I went to the users' forum and found a long thread about these errors, which sevral others are getting (on L8 and 7.2.2). None of us are using the same audio.midi interfaces. No one had an answer, and a coupe of people reported it to Apple, as has been done in the past.

Still, the interface is much simpler to use.

I bought logic 7.x a while back maybe a year ago to see if I could learn it and get out of using digidesign hardware.

I used it a couple times got frustrated sadly knowing thatin PT I would have already executed the task especially on the audio end of things.
