Hi im new to these boards.

I have just purchased a Behringer Eurotrack UB1622FX-Pro, and an SM58/57 plus a couple of XLR cables for the mics.

However I was a bit nieve and assumed that you would get all the cables and stuff needed to connect it to your computer with the mixing desk Slap

so could some one please tell me what i need to get the desk connected to my laptop? (all i have is what i said above, a basic laptop, and magix software) any help would be much appreciated as i really want to start messing around with my stuff.

thanks
Gregg

uh-oh

should have done a little more research my friend!

A laptop does not really have a suitable audio input IME. Usually they only have a mic input which is typically the wrong impedance to connect line level gear (like your mixer) to.

What you need to do is get an audio interface.

I assume you are on a bit of a budget, so a USB audio interface is probably what you will be looking for.

There are a HEAP of them nowdays.

M-audio has the transit which allows analog connection via USB....you would need leads from the 1/4" main outs of your mixer to the stereo 1/8" input. $100

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Transit-main.html

EDIROL also has the UA-1EX which is a simple little audio interface, probably a little more flexible.

edirol link

there is a lot of them.....if they are standard USB they normally dont have any problems working with Mac or Windows.

You can only record up to 2 tracks at a time.

to add....I just checked and the mixer doesnt have any digital output (via USB) so yeah, I'd recommend purchasing a USB audio interface.

Hey thanks mate, I think i might go for the EDIROL UA-1EX. Only being able to record 2 tracks at once is fine cos im just messing around just now. If i did go for that one what kind of cables would i need?
STEREO MINI JACK TO 2X MONO JK?

or

The UA-1EX offers excellent sound quality for connection to any RCA or S/PDIF optical device.

OK - it's probably 2 x RCA input

you will need 2 leads: 1/4" to RCA

connect the MAIN L and R outputs (1/4" - normal guitar plug) outputs from the mixer, to the RCA input jacks of the EDIROL...

If you get a better mic preamp with a SPDIF optical output at a later date, you will also be able to use the UA-1EX so your signal will stay in the digital domain.

have fun
