Anyone have thoughts on this? Boots from the CD, so you don't even have to dual boot...

I've used a few CD boot distro's and never found any of them very useful for long time use... But of course with 2 gigs of ram that loaded just a shitload of stuff into memory it might be very nice... and Linux machines crash very little.

There is no way to upgrade the kernel. Probably no way to upgrade many aspects of it (without rewriting it).

I also don't support any distro that doesn't allow a free download. They use loopholes to get around the fact that they are actually SELLING OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK!

You can buy (if you want documentation, a box, support and to save the time it takes to download sometimes 5-10 disks worth of shit), or you can download most distrobutions of Linux.

They would also need some very good driver support for serious use. I never found any support for any of 5 common recording interfaces I used in my Linux days.

Does anyone even make an RME 9652 linux driver. It is quite a standard to not exist.

In short... I think it's a cool idea years away from it's purpose in a professional environment.

I do however think it is a very neat way to record anywhere on the go. If you had it installed on the boot sector of a FW hard drive (if this is possible) you could plug the drive in and something like a MiniMe and be able to record anywhere that has a basic PC... Not that it's too much hassle to just buy a laptop, IMHO.
