Do you know of a good phase alignment plugin?
I like: http://www.littlelabs.com/ibp.html
But, wanted to see what plugin options there were.

thanks Fox
I am going to be getting a new computer soon, but right now I'm on an os9 mac, so I couldn't use those plugins.

But, I will definitely check them out when I get my new computer.

Ah, you're on a mac. Sorry.

And you're switching to a PC setup?

I was hoping to find a phase alignment plugin for os9 to use now. But, I am also looking at what I want to get and use for when I get a new pc.

There's gotta be something out there. Have you searched kvraudio.com?

krv is definitely a cool place. Lot's of stuff there.
I'm actually close to throwing this computer out the window!
It's horrible. I wanted to ask you to tell me more about the computer you are having made. Can you post or pm me with more info. price, specs, so I could have an idea.

I want something for about $1500.
pc, and I'm going to be using it for mixing and archiving my wav files, plugins..etc. Cubase, and I want to try out some other programs too.

I'd be happy to share.

I hear you on your frustrations. I've been using a crippling PC for the past 6 months. Good to learn on, but it chokes and wheezes when I throw too much at it....I exaggerate, but you get the point.

Anyways, the system I'm having built is $1,500 for the whole enchilada, which includes....

$1,250 for the PC, specs are:
Antec Midtower Case (black – 350w quiet PS)
Athlon 64 3700+
Uli 1689 motherboard
2GB DDR (400MHz)
80Gig 7200ROM SATA HD
200Gig 7200ROM SATA HD
FX 5200 (128MB – dual head)
16x Sony DVD/RW
Windows XP Home

This was the "mid-level" machine (which I tweaked to have 2GB instead of 1GB of RAM). I'm sure you could build this on your own for cheaper (perhaps someone will chime in and let us know what these parts would costs????), I just didn't want to try it. Not interested in the hassles. Enticed by the challenge, yes. But I wanted a relationship with someone who could help me design what I needed, tweak it to be stable, and then answer future questions (and help me with future purchases and such).

Then it's $200 for the Emu 1212m PCI card I'm getting.

And $50 to ship.

Interestingly, that's right at your budget level. Yay

Not to say that this is the way to go, though. I'm no expert on this. I just know my needs, I shared them with Jim, and he tweaked things to my taste. I'll let you know if it works out.

I was tempted to go Mac, but I knew I'd pay a lot more for the same functionality, I would have difficulty interfacing with my current machine (no biggie), and I'd have to let go of lots of free VST's (minor deal, but a bummer).

If you're shopping for software I would recommend you look at Tracktion (easy) and eXT (very tweakable and flexible), unless you're happy with Cubase. No reason to go shopping if you're happy where you are. I like experimenting and exploring with computer stuff, though I'm 'bout ready to cut the bullshit and get myself to writing and recording, not time for peaking at gear!

thanks for the info Fox.

Please let me know of some of the free plugins that you have found and liked. I'm starting to save links to free plugins that seem to be well liked.

What master effects do you like?

Tracktion comes with a free version of Acuma's FinalMix. Works fine for me now.

I use tons of free plugs. In fact, I have yet to buy any plugs. That may change, but I want to sort through the free ones and learn what I need.

I'm sure you've already heard about the good free plugs. Even the not-so-noted ones may suit your needs here and there. Also, sometimes it's less a matter of how something sounds, and more how it functions, or how ergonomic its GUI is.

I'll state the obvious first:

Good "suites:"

For Reverb:
  • sir reverb is a must for many.
  • Anwida is well worth checking out.
  • GlaceVerb is nice also. Very nice.

Other notables:

I'm also surprised at the quality of free soundfonts which you can download and then play on the free (but sometimes temperamental) soundfont player, . sfz

Tritone Digital has a free Phase Plug. Phase Tone I haven't used it. OS9 isn't supported, I don't think, but it's both Windows and Mac. And it's free!

I use Spectrafoo when I need to.

You might want to check out a non digital tool like that offered by Little Labs . . .

All the best,

Hey Fox,
I actually have a pc on order being made for me through Front End Audio.

Computer Specs:
Case: Black Antec Tower w/ 500w Power Supply
Motherboard: Intel w/ 800FSB
Processor: Intel P4 3.0GHZ
Memory: 1GIG - Kingston 512MB DDR2 x2
Hard Drive 1: Seagate 80 GB SATA (OS Drive)
Hard Drive 2: Seagate 200 GB SATA (Audio Drive)
Video Card: Nvidia
Optical Drive: DVD/CD Burner
Operating System: Microsoft XP Home (Configured for optimum
audio performance)
CPU Cooling: Zelman 7700
FireWire: FireWire Card w/ Front and Back Panel Access

I'm going to be using (PreSonus FireBox FireWire Recording Interface, Hafler TA1600, Tannoy Reveal nearfield monitors.)

I'm going to remix everything I've done so for the current album we're working on. First time I'm recording an album with live drums.
So far I had only finished 2 songs, so it's not like I got too deep into things. I have the tracks all done for 3 songs. I'm going to pop the wav. files of these songs into the new computer system and mix them.
In the meantime, the drum tracks for 8 songs have been completed, so I'm going to add the other tracks for these songs so I'll have them ready to mix as well.

Please let me know of any plugins you find that you like. It seems like we're both going to be having fun with our new computer systems!
Thanks for your recommendations so far.
