What's affordable?

Have you tried ORGANized Trio? (http://www.soundfonts.it/vst/ORGANized/)

If you want to seriously move up from there, you'll be paying for it too.

Ni B4.

Why is this a debate? Do you want it cheaper?

Organized sounds comparatively like ass, IMO. Of course, you can't argue with "free"...except it's not close.

The B4 does better than a lot of hardware emulations, IMO. I have a C3/122...I still kept the B4 tracks on this album. It sounds close enough not to redo.

...what pop said. For $200 or so...there isn't even a question. There are some free VSTi's out there that are OK...way back in a mix, but the B4 is ridiculous for the authenticity and array of functions it offers.

And if you act quickly, I think NI is still running the vintage keys deal...the B4II, ElektrikPiano, and AkoustikPiano for $399. If you got no other good soft emulations, that's a pretty good deal. I didn't like AP much, but I know others who love it...YMMV. EP is pretty nice.

I may look into that in the near future. I had some clients come in and their keyboard power supply went out, it was late, and they had to drive back home the next day, so we just recorded the midi information in hopes of finding a cost effective way of replacing the sound. the whole budget for two days of tracking plus mixes is $600, What about possibly getting reason? I would certainly use that in the future, whatever i get doesn't need to sound amazing, just passable, and allow me to still profit. Thanks so much for the responses. It may just be more cost effective to hire someone to come in and play.

...for less $$$, look at the "Organ 3" from LinPlug. I haven't used it but they do really nice stuff.

...even more affordable (like...free) ones to check are:
DSK B3x
NuBi (donationware)
MASTER HAMMOND B3

...I don't know what any of them sound like...but they're free so...

Can't you borrow a module from someone and run your midi through there? Better yet, send your midi files to someone with either HW or SW hammond emulation and get 'em back as wav.

Organize a "who can get the best hammond sound?" contest with your midi files on this forum. People will be doing it for free and you'll have several possibilities to choose from.

Be creative! Wink

What, you wanna share midi files and have someone run 'em through a drum brain or a sample set?

I doubt anyone will play and record drums for you for free.

Organized is best, then...if the money's that tight, it's decent. Actually, it's the leslie side that itsn't nearly as good...but, it's free. Make your money on the project-move on.

As to MIDI files? That's a bit trickier. A very important component of the "sound" of the Hammond is the moving of the drawbars, and the speed changes of the Leslie. Different modules need different controllers, different ramping speeds, and the actual sound of the drawbars is different--so, whatever sound the track is played to will be "best".

There's also the way it sits in a mix, which is, IMO, THE charm of the organ combo--it's like sonic glue.

Anyway, you're just gonna have to listen (in the context of mixes) and trust the organ afficianados, I think.

. . . or i may just be willing to trade some services.. . . I'll track guitars or bass, or a mix in return for replaying the organ tracks. I've lived as a session player for a while, have tons of great gear, etc. Experienced in pop, rock, big band, rockabilly, country is not my strongest point, but i've made it work when i was hungry. happy to furnish some mix or playing examples. . . any takers?
