So, while I'm awaiting the arrival of my new PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3Ghz I am trying to figure out what I will need for LCD monitors. I'm going to be running DigPerformer 4.6. I see that the unit come with a VGA adaptor. Is there a difference in quality between and Apple LCD monitor and a PC monitor? Would 2 17" be better than one 22" for DP?
Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Greg gHiA, "The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits." ....Albert Einstein |

I'd think 22 would be better. I'm not a fan of the spanned monitor set up. I mean, it's fine, but I find it more visually confusing. The difference in Apple monitors and GOOD PC monitors is not much. But, there are a LOT of "less than Apple" quality LCDs. Also, when teaming them with Apple computers, Apple's own monitors will run without a power cable...and extend the native USB (not just a hub)... |

Really?
Well, double check me, for sure, ghia. I could swear that the only difference in the Apple video connector and a PC's digital DVI is that Apple's will carry power, too. This would not be the first time I was wrong. |

I have a 23" Apple Cinema HD display for my G5. It does NOT need external AC power--the single (decently long) DVI cable to the computer carries the power as well. One cable is all I need. The screen has two touch sensitive buttons--one to power up the system and the other to open the display settings in OS X.
The display looks fantastic. It's BIG, easy on my eyes, and in conuction with OS X Expose, I can have a about a billion windows open and navigate through them all quickly and smoothly. They're not the cheapest but the Apple displays are very good. I haven't seen a better PC flatscreen and most of the ones I see don't look as good. BTW Mine is the previous gen 23" Cinema HD with the clear body, not one of the newer silver ones. __________________________________ Because I felt like it, you stupid machine. |

Kid, Expose is the program that shows all open windows at once and lets you pick the one you want to view, by dragging the mouse to whatever corner of the screen you assign it to--just go to System Preferences- Personal- Expose.
I'm on OS X Panther so if you're on Tiger I'm not sure what's different. That's interesting about the silver 23"...they must have changed things, dunno? Congrats, Ghia! __________________________________ Because I felt like it, you stupid machine. |

Well...of course it comes with a power plug...it's able to be used with non-Apple CPUs...Kid, does yours NEED the plug into the wall?

You guys are confusing the new Apple monitors (silver framed), with the old monitors... The previous generation displays used the ADC connection... They no longer support that format, and all new Apple monitors use DVI and must be plugged into the wall...

That's sad. There goes one of the big reasons to spend the money, IMO.

Ditto on the 23" HD display. They are simply the best in their price range. Got two of em hooked up for almost a year now and they are just bitchin.
Hey Ghia, is that the same Ghia from the Planet? Cool! How you been mang? Cheers Arthur |
