Here's a free Waves L1 clone, I downloaded yesterday. Don't have much experience with it yet.

thanks guys...
any others...
I read somwhere that the worst thing to do would be to add finulator, it will ruin the drums...
I guess you have to be careful with what kind of plugins you apply to individual as well as master accross the whole mix. It can help one, or some things and destroy others!

I've played around with Izotope Ozone, and it's pretty impressive. But while playing around with it, and some outboard gear as well, I discovered that mastering is a science of it's own - if you wanna do it really well anyway. So, when I'm ready I'll get in contact with John Scrip.

Good question...during tracking, I really do like the Kjaerhus Master Limiter (sometimes it stays there, sometimes it goes...)

For mixing, Samplitude's AM-Track is a killer, as is the UAD LA2..(never did get much into 1176s...not subtle enough for my tastes...) Samp's Advanced Dynamics also works very well for what I am looking for...tried the Waves stuff, which I thought sounded very good, but very pricy...The UAD Fairchild is another great sounding device, as long as you remember to tweak it to your source and not use presets. For heavier rock, the Timeworks Master Compressor (DX version) works like a charm.

Sometimes I'll open a Pultec and just leave it at default, for a certain sheen - I place it before any final dynamics, though....

Hey Ev, Adam here from the DOD forum - I quit lurking and started posting.

I'm a big fan of IK Multimedia's TRackS. Tape saturation and other old school-type things.

Hi Adam,
Nice to see you here. I have a new computer system being put together for me right now, so I'm trying to get some info. on well liked plugins.

I added the specs to the top section in my studio journal: http://studioforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4771010951/m/2161015951
And, there are some new pics from the second drum recording session added too.

I've heard some talk about Color Tone in the master as well.

Been using the PSP MasterPack lately - Vintage Warmer, MasterQ and the Master Comp. Also recently got the Sonalksis SV-517 EQ plug that I'm liking a lot. The PSP stuff sounds pretty good but can really mess things up in a hurry. A little goes a long way with those plugs.

If clients can't or won't pay for pro mastering (which I strongly encourage them to do nonetheless), I've been throwing one or a combination of the above on the final mixes.
