If you're fairly serious, I'd go with Adobe Premiere Pro 2. It's working nicely for me.

iMovie is a great little app. If you want to move up a league go with Final Cut Pro.

If you want to try something free first, check out
Arboretum's free program (which used to cost something in the past)

Nonetheless, my vote would go for Adobe Premiere as well, if you're serious about video editing.

+1 on iMovie, especially for simple video editing. If you have the need for a more pro app. (multiple video and audio tracks, effects, etc.), then Final Cut Pro is the industry standard. iMovie is bundled in iLife which I recommend. If you buy a new Mac, it iLife is usually included.

Great! thanks 4 all the input. I used imovie for a few days and loved it! I just upgraded to Final Cut Express and have a bit of a learning curve now. If it works out I'll use the upgrade coupon to get into Final Cut Pro.
I really like making movies............. Applaud

I actually found final cut pro to be not as hard a s expected. Adobe Premiere seemed to be similar (on PC), but had a lot of gliches.
I believe you can find an older version of Premiere on the net that works for mac.

Hey Ghia, my friend,

Long time no hear. Final cut is the way to go on Mac.
It is not that hard to learn, there are also good tutorials on Lynda.com check it out!

If you feel you are ready, the upgrade to Final Cut Studio (what I am using) is worth every cent. The bundle is extremely well written and very nicely integrated.
I prefer the Apple solution over Adobe. Creative Suite on Adobe rules, but for video... only Aftereffects is great in my opinion.
