I just switched over to DP4.6 from Sonar3PE and I'm having a bit of trouble adjusting

And while I'm at it, is it possible to show a numerical level value for every track, or any track at this point, in the mixing window? I can do without, but I've gotten used to it from Sonar 3. We're talking playback here, not input levels, though that'd be nice too. Also, I tried to change the resolution of the meters but it wouldn't do it. Any special tricks I need to know about

There's an invert phase plug in.
As far as numeric read out there's the Trim Plug. It's a completely negligible hit on the CPU. Some folks I know use that if they want a read out on each channel without use the trim feature. Otherwise I use a limiter on the master bus. I use the UAD Prescision Limiter now but I used the use th MW Limiter and kept a close eye t=on the read out for over all levels. Damn, it's not a big deal, but they should've put both of those things on the channels, IMO. Thanks for the advice, this program's a bitch for me to transition to, but it seems like it'll fit me a lot better than Sonar did once I get into it a bit.

Well I know what you mean. I'm a DP user for many years now. Used Performer since version 1.2 in '85. Got DP in '99 with 2.7 I think. I'm still not what I'd call a power user, so I might be missing something here. The program, while perhaps not as deep as Logic, rumor has it, is still plenty deep and I feel as though I've barely scratched the surface sometimes. So what I'm saying is there MAY be a way to put a phase switch on the channels, or numbered meters, but I haven't found the need because I can do it other ways when I do need it.
Why did you find the need to transition from Sonar? One of my more recent realizations for me has been to stick with technology that works for me and with my workflow. Pencil and paper were such great inventions because they were basic tecnology. Once you knew how to read, spell and write you could take it with you all the time, as long as you had something to write with. But with digital technology manufacturers make money by selling to geeks so the learning curve never gets to settle down to a point where the user can get back to a purely creative space where it's simple enough for just the intuition to take hold, not being hampered by "how do I make it do this?" type questions. So technoloy has become for me not just 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' but "if it ain't broke don't brake it." Sorry, I'm rambling now very off topically. All the best, Henry Robinett |

Thanks for the information, I'm only just starting out, so I'm sure things will begin to get simpler as I get used to the new environment. As for why I switched, my copy of Sonar wasn't legit. I'm just starting out commercially and decided I would be a lot more comfortable if I owned the software. I'm a bit fed up with PC's, or, rather, my PC, so I decided to go Mac, and that required a change of software. After researching I decided that DP seemed like the best fit.
