It's absolutely hilarious... anyways....

#1 Positive attitude's all around.
#2 While there may be some 'newbies', which is totally cool, there are many knowledable people here.
#3 Good topics of conversation...
#4 Free stuff (and it ain't cheap shit either).
#5 Mojopie's Review section (I know that's technically a seperate site, but I was led there from here)
#6 The Tracking and Mixing station. I've never seen anything like that in any other forums.
#7 That funky black splash screen... What is that in the "O's" anyways? Looks like the horizon over the water.
#8 Color scheme. Easy on the eyes Cool
#9 Definitely the Smilies! Applaud
#10 Free stuff (oh, did I mention that already?

I saw how to make lightsaber scenes a long time ago on TechTV... it looked so easy. The origional star wars was done by erasing the pole in the actors hands and adding color!

Someone thanks me and recognizes that I am "contributing to the forum" every time I make a post. Even if it's a pretty meaningless one.

And I know I'll get yet another one as soon as I hit the submit button on this post, too. No thing or person in life has ever shown so much gratitude for the dumb crap I say. Applaud Applaud

1. there doesnt seem to be the heavy handedness of moderators some of the other "moderated" forums employ, that when suddenly confronted with the contradiction of their convictions end up booting people out (like me) for merely commenting in their off topic forum!

2. seems to be a great mix of pro/semi-pro/amatuer and everyone gets a guernsey in a fair way.

3. Dan's email came just at the right time for me (see item No 1 above)

4. The fact the forum is moderated. HC is abysmal.

5. You can load pics to this server, thats a great thing for cheapskates like me who bludge off their work networks for internet time and dont buy any webspace Razz

Tube (hoping I can contribute something meaningful)

Yeah, no mods coming down on you for posting opinions etc. There is no feeling that SF is protecting anyone, in other words, you can say something negative about a product that is promoted around here without backlash. RO is an example of treading on thin ice around manufacturers and reps, at least that's the feeling I get there a lot. It kind of feels like they're luring you in with the hopes of learning something, to find that the guy in the "post your mixes" type area is trying to sell you his mastering services etc.

"Tweeners" is what we are (someone else coined that phrase) and it's a great fit for me. I'm not a real technical guy, but have a decent ear for tracking and mixing. I'm not mixing on a Neve desk and nobody here seems to mind (cause they aren't either! Smile).

For some reason we don't attract any trolls around here and that's a good thing. People here don't just bash each other, but can have spirited debates.

Ditto to what Warren said about RO. I pretty much bailed out of there once Chris and Steven Paul had their feud. That site has some very good information-but it also has some mods that make some really bad decisions.

I still frequent homerec. While I don't agree with the way certain individuals have anointed themselves the "spam cops" and have driven off the likes of Harvey Gerst, there's still some decent info over there. THe "ignore" button is vital on that site if you want to avoid getting into a flame war.

I'll browse PSW and Jule's forum occasionally. I get a kick out of watching newbies get sacrificed on Mixerman's forum, and Jule's forum seems very laid back, but possibly a little...I don't know what word I'm looking for here....esoteric?

I like this forum for all the reasons others have stated (No "best condensor for less than $29.95" threads, no intimidation or ritual sacrifice of newbies..) and for the fact that whether you're using a Portastudio or a Studer (sorry, Warren, I stole your analogy), there's probably someone here who can give you some insight.

The forums have a comfortable feel to them. There aren't any cliques or self-appointed "protectors of the board".

People speak their minds. You may not like what you hear, but if you ask a question, you'll get a variety of answers.

What you've just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

From Fletcher: "I reckon you're doing it for the free gear and all... which I guess you get from that prestige position at N. America's most dysfunctional audio related internet address... where pulling posts that disagree with the party line is an everyday occurrence."

I can definitely see why Alan has found himself a home there.

Yeah, I felt really wierd over at RO for awhile. After reading numerous posts over there, mostly from Mr. Kurt Foster and Mr. Alan Hyatt, I felt like an absolute idiot for purchasing a Pendulum Audio MDP-1A tube mic pre and a Neumann M149 mic, among other equipment. Had I only asked Kurt or Alan first, they would have steered me straight: to a Sebatron tube pre and SP T3 mic. What a fool I've been.

hi,

I like the connection with Dot and the Listening Sessions and with Osraves and Mojo Pie. I have watched you both grow in influence and substance over the last year or so and have seen you both develop as businesses while maintaining good integrity. Great work, fun , interesting and challenging to a newbie like myself... and after a year of home recording I am still in newbie land yet not thrashing about as much. Both Dot and Osraves have had a hand in that. Thanks

What the hell does this thread have to do with Alan?

I'll stop there.

One of the things I like about SF is that the kind of crap posted above has only shown up once in a while.

Chess-don't ruin this for the rest of us. If you want to play that game, keep it at homerec, where you started it. If you want to continue this conversation, PM me, and we'll argue out of the sight of the rest of the people in the forum.

For all reasons listed previously. It's Just more comfortable, more informative, more fun, and more personable than most places I've been.

And now, there's the avatar of H2oskiphil. Bow
