It's not what you say, it's how often you say it...
---------------------------------------------- What you've just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. |

Alan, the only thing that I still can't understand about this unit is why the Phantom Power Switch is still in the rear.
Not trying to nit-pick, but when it's in the rack, it's a pain. Thanks for teaming up here, for the giveaway. |

Well,
I suppose one can't have enough good sounding front end, I'll enter this melee. How can you go wrong with JoeMeek? You are always behind the car that is in front of you. |

Alan, the only thing that I still can't understand about this unit is why the Phantom Power Switch is still in the rear.
It could probably be argued that A) If you're repatching in a condenser mic that requires phantom power, you're already back there anyway (I know that idea falls flat if you keep a mic cable plugged into the input and just change the mic at the other end of the cable, but it's a thought B) They ran out of room on the front (outside panel layout and/or PCB and parts behind the front panel) C) The button is close to the XLR input where the phantom power kicks into the input stage, so a relay, or the actual phantom power itself, doesn't have to be run across the other components to the front panel and back again D) It was cheaper to do it that way, what do you want for $299 MSRP? There, that's one post; I'd be glad to win one wherever the 48v switch is located. ....................................... Competitions are for horses, not artists. - Bela Bartok |

Well there seems to be a few questions, so let me address them.
This is an entirely new design from the old ones. The front end is a Burr Brown circuit. The compressor is still optical, but uses a different optical device. One that is more accurate, and way more costly. While it is still photo-optical, the operation is a bit different from the old units. This threeQ is so much faster than the old VC3Q or MC3, so the results is it has so much compression that less is better. You will find that you only need to dial in a small amount, slow up the attack time all the way, and you have the same old sound. Speed up the attack time and you start to get more punchy and more agressive. The results are very cool for effects, but learning the unit will enable you to dial in just the right amount of sweetness to bring your vocal to the front and add some musical tone. The EQ is really nice as well with that mid sweep, and it is not sloppy like the old EQ where if you bossted the low end it would flutter. This unit is solid as a rock and EQ is really useable. The reason the 48V is on the back is mostly as chrisrnps says. The main reason is no room on the front. Whoever wins this, please give me a call and I will be hapy to spend a few minutes with you going over the use of the unit. I think the winner is in for a big treat.... Those are the integral Helmholtz resonators, one of the secrets to the amazing sound of the Curbside Compressor section. When I win I will mail you my neighbors red one. That's fair. Crisrnps,
Your killing me! Either you have way too much time on your hands or you have an odd colection of digital images featuring overhyped and underperforming recycle bins that have been recycled themselves into counterfeit audio products...
