WOW!!!

Thanks to Dan Richards and Alan Hyatt. I look forward to hearing this bad boy. I know nothing about "optical" compressor's but look forward to checking it out. Maybe the comp will sound good on bass??? I have an RNC but don't use it on bass that much.

Thumbs up to Studio Forums!!!

Congrats Conga! Yes, please do post a review once you've had a chance to get a feel for it! I imagine there are a bunch of us who may be interested in this product...even if we have to (gasp) PAY for it!

Congrats.

Others probably know more, but I'd have thought it would be quite a good complement to an RNC for compression.

OK Studio Forum members,

I have spent some time with the 3Q and wanted to type my impressions thus far.

Keep in mind that I am just touching on highlights of my time with it and I would recommend that anybody wanting a technical treatsy should go to the Joe Meek site and download the Owners Manual...which happens to be my first observation.

The manual is chocked full of detail on the unit while being an enjoyable read, not to heady/abstract. I have some manuals that are a nightmare to crack and some that have the most minimal of info and this seems to be just right in leaving you wanting to read more.

As I pulled it out of the box it felt heavier than what I thought it was going to weigh. It may seem more to me since I'm not unwrapping half unit boxes on a daily or weekly baises but it wasn't as light as I thought it would be. I have read reports on some small pre's that are somewhat chincy in construction but the Joe Meek is pretty solid and I would have no compulsion in leaving it un-racked while dragging it to a friends house.
The push engage/disengage buttons are smooth and it's nice to be able to engage and bypass the comp and eq to A/B what your doing to the signal.
The knobs feel good as well and I like the stepped gain on the pre and output gain, very convenient when honing in your levels.
The metering is easy to see and read so nobody should have any problems there.

Alan Hyatt is right about a little compression going a long way. I do not feel qualified to speek on the meek's compression but it is rather intuitive to use.

As far as how it sounds...I am sending out a batch of CD's with preamp samples on it to people who are willing to post their opinions. Interested listeners/reviewers can send their address in an email to me at,

congalocke@hotmail.com

Most of my pre's don't have the extra's of a channel strip and these are certainly nice options to have when tracking.

Good luck to everybody in the July Giveaway!
