I don't know how many of you folks know, but there were 22 ADK mics used on the recording of Ray Charles' CD "Genius Loves Company", which won 5 Grammy awards this year, including Album Of The Year as well as Record Of The Year for the Norah Jones duet "Here We Go Again". And that was out of the 10 Grammy nominations received for the album.

ADK TT's were used on vocals for Ray Charles and Johnny Matthis. Ray Charles' piano was miked with ADK TL's. And there were many ADK's on serious duty miking the orchestra.

Recording engineer for "Genius Loves Company", Terry Howard said, “I have become a huge fan of ADK Mics lately. After hearing the ADK TT I was not surprised that Ray Charles and Johnny Matthis selected two of the TT tube mics for their vocals. The fact that the TL Decca-Tree set-up works well on Grand Piano was a nice bonus. But what surprised us the most was how many uses we found for the original model A-51s. Tracking Guitars for James Taylor to Drums and Horns, ADK Mics were everywhere on the CD ‘Genius Loves Company!'”

Until about a year ago people asking on the different recording forums about ADK mics often got no or very few replies. The word started catching on and I've been glad to be in the position to be one of the people using, applauding and recommending their microphones and watching ADK get recommended by other enthusiastic users of ADK mics. I'm also proud to have them as a sponsor at Studio Forums. As a matter of fact, ADK was the first sponsor Studio Forums ever had. When we didn't have any advertisers and hardly any traffic, ADK decided to take a chance on Studio Forums in the hopes it would grow and become a worthwhile medium for their advertising. And recently, along with Great River, Direct Sound's Extreme Isolation Headphones, Sound Pure Pro Audio, ADK has also decided to advertise on the other two sister sites to Studio Forums, The Listening Sessions and The Project Studio Handbook. It's these folks, and the other sponsors, who keep the lights on here.

I think this is very cool for a little mic company that started a few years ago. I'm not making noise about ADK because they advertise here. ADK advertises here because I asked them to be here because I'm honestly psyched about their mics. When I recorded JAZZOOO's Two Days in November I ended up using two TL's and a CE on the grand piano. And I was proud and honored to find out that ADK recently had the CD on display with other CD's such as "Genius Loves Company", Kathy Mattea, Patti Page in the ADK booth in their 2005 NAMM Show.

Congrats to ADK founder Larry Villella and mic designer JP Gerard for creating great mics that are becoming part of great works. Good to see ADK starting to get the respect and recognition. You guys deserve it!

Do you have an email addy for Larry?

I'm having an issue with his tech support/parts people, and I need to get it resolved. I snapped one of the thumbscrews on my A51 shockmount, so the mic's on the shelf right now, and I can't seem to get anyone from ADK to get back to me about ordering a replacement. Kinda sucks, because I'm right in the middle of a project, and the A51 is the sax mic of choice, so I can't record sax until it's fixed....

What you've just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Ray Charles used a TT on vocals on "Genius Loves Company". Not on Norah Jones "Here We Go Again". But Ray did win a Grammy for that song, too. I grabbed that copy off the Grammy site.

I was so stoked when I walked into Larry's booth at NAMM, only to see a nice display of CDs that had used his mics, and as Dot pointed out--our CD, Two Days in November, was sitting right there next to Ray Charles'! Larry loves the album and says he's truly flattered that he could be a part of it--how cool is that? He's a sweetheart, and I believe he's going to continue making a big dent in the mic market. I'm on his side, absolutely.

Well...it makes sense. Everyone involved who says how great a vocal mic it is--including Mix, had the old version, that was a cardoid only TT. I'm tempted to have Flatcat send me his to check out.

I see people all the time claim how fine a vocal mic it is. I have a hard time imagining. Maybe if you have a muted but nasal high tenor that's clean as a whistle and want something to make it breathy and edgey while providing a little low end richness...and don't want to compress it much.

Thanks for the link to where they talked about changing the "voicing", Dusty. It's made me feel less crazy. And that counts for a lot.
