Can we please please have a few pics and a bit of a diary of this, as it happens?
Dusty, do you have a dig camera? And Ronan, would it be OK to do this? I just think it's such a great prize, and very fortuitous for Dusty, and Dan is always encouraging us to document things like studio builds, upgrades, experiences etc... This is going to be some stoopid fun
Yeah stixxs I'm going, in fact I'm setting up for a session now and will probably order my plane tix later tonight (the seats I've been tracking are starting to drop in price so I'm wondering if I should hold out!? Probably not!) I don't have a digi cam though I may borrow one from a friend or otherwise bring my trusty SLR. It should come as no surprise that an analog mix, vinyl, tape, and stickshift guy should also shoot on film __________________________________ Because I felt like it, you stupid machine. |

My digital camera realllly sucks! It says it's batteries are dead and shuts it self off after 10 seconds if you don't take a picture even with a fresh set of Energizers. You can't use the view finder because it's waaaaaaay off (so you have to use the LCD screen), and it doesn't zoom out. It's like the lense is always magnifying so I can't even take a picture of stuff in my room if I back up clear to the opposite wall... And it takes terrible/innacurate pictures on top of all that!
So I'll be buying a couple throw away cameras! ...or borrow one. ************* I'm cool to make a diary if it's cool with Ronan and his crew, but I don't want to make the event in to a photo shoot (if it means me being the photographer instead of learning!) and I doubt Ronan wants me to! Very cool that Peter Montessi might be there! I'm going to have to ask him why he picked someone elses mix over mine in a contest I entered. Ronan is recording/playing the kind of music I want to make. Figuring out how to get crazy sounds out of my guitar is what I spend more time on than anything! I just haven't been able to tap in to any creative forms of playing/engineering that actually SOUND GOOD! So I'm really looking forward to learning from the best! But the thing I need to learn most (in my opinion) is tuning, tracking AND mixing drums! I also need to learn to get better takes. Really, I need help with everything... I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing (with Britney Spears being the exception -Dusty |

Just a little reflection at the end of the day was all I was thinking Dusty! We'll all be thinking of you while you'll be doin' this ya know! I wouldnt want to turn it into something like "jail cam" or anything... Wouldn't it be cool if we could get a wireless webcam and strap it to Dusty's head like a miner's lamp? Especially for when Ronan takes them out to the tittie bar after class! mud www.mudbean.com "Do ya want it to be interesting, or do ya want it to be true?" "So far, it's neither." |

Great idea Mud.
But if Ronan won't allow that, maybe Dusty can bring along a court artist. Hey Dusty, the most important thing is to just pay attention and take it all in. Try to absorb and understand, rhater than to remember. As for the pictures, it reminds me of note takers. You see, I taught for quite awhile. While there are definitely times to take notes, it always seemed that the people who tried to write everything down never actually understood what they were trying to learn. They were spending all of their energy trying to keep up their note taking and then back pedaling....trying to memorize their notes. So, maybe you can take a few shots, especially before and after classes. But remember, you're there to be a musician, not a photographer (I think photography boot camp is at CNET.com). So, relax, enjoy....and take it all in. Madguitrst has left the Forums.......but not before committing acts designed to offend the senses. |

The daily diary is a cool idea. I am down with it, but boy do I wish I'd been spending more time at the gym lately to look better in the photos!

Ok, I'll make a diary, and I hope Dirty will as well... Perhaps we could combine our most memorable moments and photo's into a decent web page or something.
I wont be bringing a laptop and I hate handwriting stuff, so i'll probably just jot the basics of the day down and then re-write from memory when I get home... If that makes any sense. I kind of get the vibe that Ronan likes to keep the bootcamps kind of mysterious. For instance, he doesn't mention where the field trips are to, who the special guests will be and or go in to details of what is covered or the gear in the studio. I would read all of that information in a second if it were available to me, but I also think not knowing what to expect really adds to the excitement. Both now and during the Bootcamp! I also get the impression that Ronan kind of lets the students have input on what stuff is covered in the Bootcamp instead of following a strict corriculum. And I think that is one of the main benefits of small class sizes. It's a lot easier to figure out that all the students have a grasp on a subject and move on in a class of 8 instead of 80! I agree with Madguitarist on the note taking thing... By the way... What is a "gym"? -Dusty |

Yeah, I can keep a little diary of notes if anyone wants; we could post it in a thread with some pics, though I don't want Ronan or the rest of us stoo-dents to feel "under the microscope" or anything. I'm first and foremost there to learn like everyone else. I plan to bring a notepad to keep some notes on during lecture, anyway (you can take the ragamuffin out of college, but you can't take the...)
I think it's really really cool that Ronan keeps the syllabus open--in fact, I wouldn't be as interested if it weren't. I think it's very cool that he's willing to cater to the particular needs of the students. I'm pretty stoked and a little mystery keeps me interested. It sounds like we get to play with some A-Designs, at least, and I'm awfully stoked about that! I just looked at the "Let's See Your Mug" thread, and I have to say:
According to the pics I saw there, Dusty and Dirty, you two remind me of musical versions Felix and Oscar of the Odd Couple. You two should have met up and made a road trip out of it all, that would have been really cool. Are either of you guys gonna spend any extra time out there? A road trip, oh god. It would be like a recording version of Thelma and Louise
EASYFADER Driving down the highway in ragtop Dirty: Ahm so sick of Behringer gear bein harsh and chintzy awl the tahm, Duhstee! Dusty: Ah am too, Dirty! That scuhm's been bringin us down fr' too lawng! Say! Let's shoot awl the Behringer gear we kin fahnd!! Dirty: Ah kin dig it, Duhstee! They join hands and soar off a cliff with a trunkful of bullet ridden Eurodesks and Composer Pros, a stream of angry weekend warriors in minivans and pickups in hot pursuit. A burning Mackie VLZ fades into the golden sunset. THE END ...or maybe I'll just fly instead __________________________________ Because I felt like it, you stupid machine. |

I have a feeling it would be closer to "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" than Thelma and Louise.
What is so funny about our pictures in the "show your mug" is I'm dressed up like a Cowboy and Dirty's sportin' dreads. If those pictures were all you had to go by we would appear diverse to say the least! I think the plan is to stay an extra day to recover, Madguitarist. -Dusty |
