I picked black... It never goes out of style. And he uses a very nice, dense "sharkstooth" type fabric - Very little reflectivity, so it's like staring into nothingness even in a well-lit room.

Well good. I was thinking of black. Now let's see what the woman says.

I have some black ones as well... Nick used a nice "somewhat shiney/not too wooly" black on mine... Very nice.

Congrats, Henry! Applaud

I just ordered a set of Nick's bag-type units.

I requested grey, as black things don't do so well
here in the oh-so-dust-filled desert.

OK it's been a while, but I'm finally putting them up!!!! I had a delay because we decided to change the studio around. Paint the walls and re-arranged where things will go. I'm putting the computer and monitors on another wall entirely.

So though I'm not an engineer proper as I'm a musician, so I'm frustratingly all thumbs when it comes to hammers and nails. Nick has been very cool 'splainin' things. I got all but one up. Because the room is kind of tweaky, I can only put them up in three corners. The other one I figure on putting up behind, in between, the speaker monitors. Tell me if this doesn't seem right. Left front and back corners. Right back corner and in front between speakers. I suppose I could put the remaining one on the right wall or in front to the right on the wall and not in the corner. Yaking out loud . . . sorry. I think I'm avoiding work.

All the best,

Henry Robinett

Henry, I'd recommend you put the one you have left on the front wall in between your monitors. I actually have four in here and they're all on the front wall in a sort of 4' X 8' array.

Here's an old, lousy pic. But it'll give you an idea. And I just have the panels leaning against the wall. And they're also leaning at a slight angle so they create non-parallel surfaces. The whole idea is I can pack up my studio - including the table, racks, monitors, computer and MA panels – in about 30 minutes and put it all in my Jeep and take it anywhere to work on a project.

I also have 4 other MA panels that are sets of two hinged together that I use as movable baffles for recording in the larger room.

That's cool Dan. I did put the remaining one up behind the speakers. I think I'm going to order another one (or two). He has these new ones that can mount on a mic stand. I can put that in the remaining corner when I'm mixing. Maybe the hinged ones for the back . . .

All the best,

Just as a follow up, we had the get together this weekend. I got the racks and put all my gear in, not fully hooked up yet. But I've been mixing and it's unbelievable how much difference these things make! It's sounding like a real honest to god studio. It's embarrassing to say what I was doing before, but suffice it to say it was inadequate. I have my monitors sitting on top of these racks with an additional platform for them, so they sit higher, with a lot more separation than I had. And the Modular Acoustic Panels are just gorgeous. I can hear the bass without fighting other frequencies I wasn't even aware I was fighting before.

All the best,

Henry Robinett

Is anyone getting a refund on previous mastering?

Big Grin

Enjoy ...I hope to build my own when I get a whole room to work with and not in my bedroom.

Major inadequecy and conflict of interest with the wifes decor obsession versus my musical needs.
