Alrighty! Continuing with the Red5 Audio goodies, for June we've got an RVK7 Drum kit microphone set up for grabs. I'm not a big fan of drum mic "kits", but this is a pretty cool one. When we got this kit in for evaluation a few years ago we were pretty impressed. I will say, though, that the RV4 pencil mics didn't knock me over, and when I spoke with Red5 Audio about it and also added that we were very impressed with their RV8 large condenser mics on drum OH's and would like to see a kit by them with RV8's replacing the RV4's for OH's, they came up with the RVK7+. I also commented that I thought the RVD1 was an excellent kick drum mic and should be released as a separate product – which they later did. The RVK7 kit is generally intended for live use and the RV4's can also be powered by batteries. The kit also includes the very excellent RVD1 large dynamic mic – which is one of our favorite kick drum mics. The 4 RVD9 dynamics are excellent for snare and tom, and the kit includes mic clips/mounting brackets for the RVD9's.

Overall, for something in the $300 range this kit packs a lot of punch. For live applications it's excellent. And if you're recording drums in the studio this is a cost-effective way to get started – even though I'd recommend considering an upgrade to the RV4 small condensers for OH's at some point.

There's an excellent review of the RVK7 mic kit along with soundclips here at dancetech.com

Very cool! The design of the clip-on rim mounts looks pretty smart, no-nonsense, and sturdy, as far as such things go (although I personally prefer freestanding mic stands)...

Yea, now I'll finally be able to upgrade from these radio shack tom mics and overhead mic!

I say all "non-drummers" should be immediately disqualified. Big GrinBig Grin

I want to go for these. I know a drummer with a CAD E300 that I really like. He wants to trade for a set of drum mics.

I'll second that!!!

I just found a drummer - bummer is that he tossed out his ddrum triggers and sold the mics he had...So, these would come in handy. But I don't think I'm the only one who could put 'em to good use...Good luck everyone!

I've got the drummer amd I've got a set of drum mics(Audix D series), so if I win, I'll give 'em to someone else. What I really need, and Dan, if you ever give this away, I gotta win, is a nice room to record drums in!! Now that would be a totally cool prize!!!

Later,

Joel

These would be a nice upgrade from the CAD set I have now...

What you've just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'll take em! Having too many mics is like having too many preamps anyway, right?

Good luck to everyone (especially me...I need these)
