I'd be up for getting a Software & Computers forum started at some point. What we'd need though, beside interest, are a few primo moderators who really know their computer stuff. Real deep geekery. The 3l33t.

We need a crack Mac and a crack PC/Windoze moderator. When we find the right people I can also very possibly arrange for them to review software through Digital Pro Sound, where I'm an editor.

If anyone's up for this or has any thoughts...

Dot-

Great idea for the forum.

I'm certainly not a true computer geek, so I'm patently unqualified for the mod position, but I CAN provide some insights, and would probably learn a lot, as well.

How about a forum to replace audiomasters? The Adobe forum is not really user-friendly for us cool edit types.

How about a slot for alternative platforms? I'm a Linux & BeOS guy myself - not the most mainstream, but still growing.

Dan, it's a great idea. I'm about 1/4 up the learning curve on PC recording right now.

There should be an opening post by someone qualified to write it, focusing on sync/clock issues. 99% of most PC related posts begin "I'm getting clicking and popping when recording", which is usually a clock issue in my findings.

Also, there could be a nice sticky on Windows tweaking. The amount of stability and speed picked up by running proper tweaks has my new PC just smokin'...

I'm not qualified to write this stuff though! Sorry.

Dan,

That type of forum would be quite helpful to those of us heading in the PC recording direction.

Later,

Joel

I would like to see a DAW/computer forum also.
I am going to try to build my next DAW by myself and don't know hardly where to start trying to find compatabale hardware/software, what ram is best... etc.
I wish I was knowledgable enough to help out, but technology has been moving a bit too fast for me to keep up.

I'd love a forum too. I have Cubasis VST 4.0 and I would like to know if I'm the idiot SlapBawling or whether the program just f-ing sucks. Usually I work on my VS 1880 but I wanna use my notebook when I'm on the road Waytogo

Being a complete computer-retard, I think that forum would be quite helpful for me, especially the "Windows tweaks" thread. I'd like to see it happen...hopefully some good mods can be found...

The mods certainly are key...so who are they? Who are the real computer geeks? Smile

Tekker, (in my best Austin Powers)if that is your real name...(end AP voice)

if you can diagnose possible pc/mac recording problems and are knowledgeable of recording hardware and software and don't mind sifting through long "I'm having clicks and pops" or "why won't my soundcard playback?" posts then the answer is undoubtedly...

YES!

Smile

Although I picked up an Echo DARLA 24 for $99 that came with some demo mixing software my next step is the Yamaha AW16.

At some point I would like to add a PC to the rig. The AW16G converts at 24 bits is only stores at 16 bits.

I am sure I could come up with some questions at some point but I am going with the dedicated stand alone DAW because computers typicaly give me ulcers.
