I'm a musician/writer working in my always evolving home studio. I like to use the analogy that recording is like painting (I've got to use my art degree for something), there are many layers and many colors that mix and interact with each other to make final mix work.

Have 2 little rascal (boys), 3 and 5 that I take care of during the day. It's really something to see them discover music.

I'm an animator as well so I'll have to work on a gif to rival DOT's.

Hey Dot. Caught the link from a post in the VS Planet. Very cool things you got going here. Especially the listening sessions and the digital pro sound mag. Look forward to watching the place grow!

A Little about ME;
I am 22. I have worked as a HVAC Engineer for large scale Pharmacudical buildings for a Controls Company. Just recently Laid Off. More time to spend on my Studio Wink I play Guitar, some Bass, some Violin, I Sing, and write music. Bought my Tascam 788 Portastudio and SM57 a few years back, with the notion that I just wanted to hear my guitar work on a CD. Thought it would be easy. Saw that it was a bit more complicated than I thought. Wanted a better sound, so I looked into better preamps and mics. Was recommended to spend the money on Books instead(Best advise I ever got btw). Then saw that it was ALOT more complicated than I thought. Said to myself, "I will not buy 1 more thing untill I can get good results with the 788 and SM57. This is where I learned to Fully respect "Mic Placement"! Did my first Demo for a friend who was a Singer/Acoustic Guitar Player/Songwriter. Everone liked it. Got offers to get paid to make a few demos. Finally splurged and Bought a powerful custom PC Daw, good sound card, decent mic collection, a couple good preamps, comps, reverb unit, proper cables, insence, monitors, software, etc,...Now I have a semi-acoustically treated recording room, and a seperate control room in my basement. Somewhere in between, wanting to hear my guitar playing, and Now,...Thousands of dollars later...I unfortunately grew Very Fond of a Very Expensive Hobby. Too expensive for me to afford Slap

Hi!
My name is Alécio Costa. I am a Brazilian recording engineer/singer/musician/producer who has been involved with CD production since 1996, at my studio Digital Performance.

I have produced, recorded and performed on over 30 CDs in the last 7 years. The material has ranged from gospel music to hard rock and classical, with sessions up to 50 musicians.
Some of those albums have received prestigious awards, and were featured at Guitar Player Brazil.

One project, Janet & Joel (Soul/Pop/MPB), was nominated for the “Sharp Awards” (similar to the USA Grammy).

My work with Camerata Florianópolis (Bartok, Bengraf, Elgar, Vivaldi, etc) has received nice reviews from top classical producers in the USA.

I played with my bands Linha Direta and Projeto Vega between 1985 and 1996. We played with audiences as big as 15,000 people, opening for the British reggae group Pato Banton on their Brazilian tour in 1994.

I intend to finish and release my own album in 2003, which is already 2 years late!! It is mostly Pop/soul from the 80´s, with 3 songs sung in English.

In 1996 I stopped performing and concentrated on building and putting up my studio. Occasionally I have been playing at some client’s gigs, mostly for CD release shows.

I could not live in peace without being in contact with consoles, outboard gear, and microphones, or without composing, or programming keyboards. Music is my life; I thank God for the miracle and power of music.

BTW, I moderated the RO plugin room with my bud David Doc until November 25th, 2003. It was a nice experience.

Greetings from sunny Florida!

I met Alecio when I was the pro audio salesman at the now defunct Ace Music of Miami during the late 80's and early 90's. The big hair and big reverb years of rock. Nice to see you here!

Now I am a full time Associate Pastor of a small (250 member) church in Ft. Lauderdale, where my wife and I lead the music program. As a former rock and roll artist, I am blessed to be able to rock the house every Sunday -- no pipe organ music in my church, electric guitars and slammin' drums.

I have a project studio in my home where I did my wife's praise music cd (gospel, jazz and pop/rock), my 16 year old's hardcore band (he's the lead screamer) and I am currently mixing my 20 year old's Alt/Punk/Rock band.

My studio has a G4 Dual 1.25 with MOTU 2408 mkII and DP 3.11, a Tascam DA88 and DA38 locked up to DP with an SY88 sync card, a Yamaha 02R V2 with TC Electonic UnitY card and 3 TDIF cards (2 for DA's, 1 for 2408)

Outboard gear includes Peavey VMP tube preamp, Avalon 747 comp/eq, Empirical Labs Fatso, Transient Designer 4, Urei 546 eq, TC Elec M3000 reverb and Gold Channel preamp/DSP, Alesis Wedge reverb, Lexicon LXP1, Joemeek VC3 and C2 (pre/comp and stereo comp), RNC, and a ton of mics including CAD E-300, MXL V67, AKG C4000b, Oktava MK319, NTK, AT4051, AKG C535, ATM25, Senn 421 (1 old, 1 new), 2x SM57, Behringer ECM8000 (2), Crown PZM, and more.

Forgive my listing all this stuff, but I thought if anyone wanted any opinions on any of it I might be able to make a small contribution to the forum that way.

Glad to be here.

Hey Hey another Dp man!!
Hows the Transient Designer?
Hi all,
Latin percussionist first and foremost, and recording and mixing enthusiast.Oh and some keys.
Been at awhile and getting the hang of recording and mixing due to boards (especially this one).

I'm on a Mac G3 (yeah its dinasour Cobra) running Dp3, MOTU1224, 2408mkii, mixing in the box so far.
Mackie 1202 Eeks and Soundcraft SX Wink Grace 101,
RNC MXP550, Alex, Rane PE15 (kinda noisy). Some midi modules etc.
AKG414, C3000 Eek,SM81,BG4.1, Audix TR40, D2's, 421,e609, Beyer M201, EV408, and...what else did I have Slap I think thats it.
Mostly doing my own stuff, but have done some "small ensemble stuff". Rock, R&B. Latin, Jazz or whatever comes my way-that I can handle.
Can't handle drum kit at this point, but have some acoustic treatment up for decent sound.

Been a while since I signed up, but what the hey, great bunch here!!
Yay Yay Yay

Hey Tonio,

Don't feel too badly about running DP on a G3, I used to run it on a 7100/80 with a 260mhz accelerator. The only versions I could get to work were DP 2.6 and 2.7 -- and after 10 tracks it would die.

Transient Designer is indispensible on drums. It lets you increase or decrease the attack separately from the sustained portion of the signal. You can add or subtract the room sound the mic picked up just by turning up the sustain.

Bye for now.

Hey Steve,
I'll keep this system till I can't stand it any more, because the other things I need/want?
Its a never ending GAS. Big Laugh
Have you used the TD for other instruments? Since I'm a percussionist I was wondering how it would be on congas, bongos, timbales and the like?
Thanks

Hey Tonio,

Works on percussion great. When you turn up the sustain control it sounds a little like you're adding some nice sounding room reverb.

I even tried it on a few guitar tracks. One Acoustic guitar had too much room sound. I pulled the "sustain" control back a bit and the track sounded perfect.

I am FunkyBeat.

I found this place from a link that Popmann posted at the VS Planet about his effects shoot-out. I am glad I clicked on it.

I've been recording music at home since the first Fostex X-15 4 track recorder was released. I currently record on a Roland VS-1880.

Looking forward to many pleasant experiences here.

On many sites I'm duratboy, as the name "ratboy" is usually unavailable (I guess I'm not that original). I'm currently trapped in Dallas, but hope to escape someday.

I've been a singer-songwriter all of my adult life. As good recording gear got cheaper, I started to do my own tracking as well. I'm not much of a tech-head, but if peeps speak slowly I can get the main idea.

I use a Roland 2480, D50 monitors, VMPro preamp and baby bottle mic. I don't have any other outboard gear (yet); my goal is just to get my music out. I'll be releasing a cd of 10 original songs in the next month or so. I've been working on it for a year and a half.

Anyway, great to be here. Sorry I didn't sign in sooner.

Hi, I'm Sherry from Sydney, Australia.

I'm kind of a newbie so at the moment I tend to mostly lurk on these forums and try to learn without saying anything too banal.

I'm a singer/songwriter but have only just gotten into this recently. (I didn't realise how professional home audio had gotten since I played around with my schoolfriends 'home studios' ten years ago)

I love music - and once I get this thing going will probably be doing it for the rest of my life.

As for setup. Mostly it's still in the wishlist stage but I'm learning a lot (and realising that I've got expensive tastes in equipment).

Not sure where I got the link from. Someplace somewhere - but anyway - great forum Dot!

Thanks
