Hi dot.
A crowd called ADK have developed some Pre-amps that were announced at NAMM. I enjoy their mics and was wondering if you might have a look/listen at one of these at some stage?? Thanks Mick Mick from ITC in Oz |

Hi Mick, I made some contributions to the development of the new ADK AP-1 mic pre. But have yet to hear/use the final production model. We have some on the way and I'll post some thoughts when I get a change to take one for a test drive.

I listened to mainly the acoustic guitar samples, and man, they are GREAT!!! Not too much clarity diff in the pres, except for the VLZ, and I was humored at the way the player gave up halfway thru it. Maybe the player shouldnt have cans on while playing, as to not influence/hinder the excitement while recording?
Anyway, great examples, as thats all I do is Acoustic instruments and voice. I spend most of my time doing a/b work on mics and pres with acoustic guitar, so I really appreciate those recordings. I believe that the acoustic guitar, with the same mic proximity, performance type thing, is the most neutral ground for comparisons of any preamp. I may be wrong about that, and If I am, I am always willing to learn. I always need to learn!!! "And on the 7th Day, He rested" |

Subject: Best mic pre-amp for live performances
Hi there! I have a pop band consist in 3 lead-singers (2 men and 1 woman) and we want to buy some audio equipment to enrich our live performance. We consider buying a Yamaha AW16G digital mixer with harddisk because we want to play all the tracks from it. It has a lot of ins and outs with comp/eq/effects on them. Just about enought for us to play the instrumental tracks and the 3 live microphones. Is this a good mixer for us? We want the Lexicon MPX550, that is an dual-effect, with the famous Lexicon reverb and another effect in the same time, in serial or paralel chain. Is this a good option for us? But, most of all, we need a good mic pre-amp. Unfortunately, there is no pre-amp for 3 microphones... I've found DBX 1046 Quad Compressor/Limiter but I don't know if it has a mic pre-amp in it. I've discovered the Focusrite ISA 428 Pre Pack on the net, but I don't know if it was made for live performances. And it is a little expensive... And the question is: What is the best mic pre-amp for live performances on big scenes (in front of thousands people)? Thanks! |

Ok, I know its on the lower end of the spectrum, but how about the ART Digital MPA. I heard really good things from friends about the original MPA, and got a good deal on the Digital (I use the S/PDIF connector). I would be interested to see where it falls on the spectrum of things (especially compared to my other pre's-- Digi 002R, Focusrite OctoPre LE, FocusRite Trakmaster Pro, Aphex 207). While were at it, maybe the Aphex 207 too?
