These clips were recorded by Shane Selby and myself. I recently bought some Electro Voice ND468 mics & ND168 snare drum mics (discontinued). We have directly compared:

Snare Drum:
SM57 vs. ND168
SM57 vs. ND468

Rack Tom & Floor Tom
Audix Fusion F10 vs. E/V ND468

The drum was recorded with both mics at once, being careful to align the actual capsules of each mic with the same spot and distance from the drum. Take notice that you will need to pan hard left or hard right to compare the mics. I think this is the easiest and fairest comparison.

MP3's ARE POSTED HERE

Enjoy!

Warren

The preamps were stock Alesis32. We tried the RNP, but the 6db gain stages did not yield enough control for accurate and equal amplification. Mic cables are identical (el cheapos) make and length. The E/V mics were at least 5 or 6 db hotter in output as the other mics tested.*

They are Arbiter drums(pretty much the nicest sounding and tuning drums I have ever heard/seen), and Im pretty sure no treatment was used on them, although Warren will be able to answer that better.

Wow, sorry for the delayed reply. Brasher and I have recorded with these drums plenty, and used to gig live with them as well.

They are Arbiter 9mm drums (soon they will release their 6mm versions as these are discontinued), they're all maple and have the advanced tuning system which makes them the easiest drums to tune in the world AND they hold their tune very well and evenly around the head.

Thanks for the compliment on them Eddie, I really enjoy these drums! NO muffling is used EVER by me on these drums, they're so easy to tune that I find it unnecessary.

I'd heard great stuff about the EV's, However, I really hear a huge difference, so I pulled up wavelab and didn't see a big difference between that an the SM57. Anybody?

DrMad, it's all in the ears...not what Wavelab visually reports!
