My friend and I are framing out the room, it's a little over 11x21. I am at a standstill because I just want to know if I use styrofoam installation bewteen the joist will that keep or deaden footstooop, conversation, tv and radio sounds out. I mean you can hear everything. It's an old house.
If I use sheetroock, that will seal up my pipes and wires...not to mention the support beams that are running down the middle of the house...wish I could send a picture. How do I do that?

Having done this I would recommend for the ceiling a layer of 6 inch mineral wool. two if you can afford it. Then a layer of 5/8's inch drywall. Then a resilient channel and then a second layer of 5/8's.
