Here is the situation, I have a terrible shaped room, almost square! But I need to make it sound the best it can be. I have several boxes of 2" 703 and 705 on hand. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? I have a general idea from all the research i've done, but would like to hear others based on this design. And I don't have the option in turning the desk the other way. thx
What's the ceiling like, I'm guessing not too high?
Basically it all depends on the amount of absorption you are willing to apply. If that room is for mixing than the more bass traps the better. So trap as many corners as you can afford.
Because the wall behind you is very close you would more prefer to have absorption behind than in front of you. I'd say at least at the spot to where the speaker is looking at.
Also you could build 2 angled walls/slot resonators on 2 sides, but I'm guessing you won't be willing to do that.
what's under the drop ceiling? you might be able to take advantage of that space for trapping and symmetry control. also, the back corners will need lots of trapping and since the room is short the back wall needs to mostly be dead - but not just highs... if its possible to do some construction - i'd add some treatment walls on eithr side of the desk for both symmetry and changing the room size.
You really are going to need much more bass trapping in a room like that and (if I am reading your post right) the traps for the corners need to be no less then 4" thick. I do agree with Gullfo about the ceiling and YES put some panels on the back wall. 4" or more thick and space them 4" off the wall.
