Hi there. I have a very basic studio setup: a couple of mics, a Pod Pro, a drum machine, a cd player and a guitar synth all running into a 22 channel board. The 2 board mains go to my MBox 2. The 2 monitor outs go to a power amp which power my 2 monitors. -- ok, still with me.. pretty simple. I am getting a ton of noise when I arm a new track in pro tools. Even if it is a direct feed like the pod or the synth. Wht is weird is that I do not have the noise if I am playing back a track of stuf that I have recorded before (example: a BFD drum track) - dead quiet. CD playback - fine - dead quiet. The only time I am getting the noise is on a new track. I have tried pluging into different outlets, turning off lights, turning off all other gear (this does not seem to be a ground loop noise). The head phone line is dead quiet... I can not figure this out. Any advice???

Sounds like something in the beginning of the chain.
A BFD track won't give you any noise because it's a triggered midi file. It never came in to the console. What's the console? Some consoles designed for live sound give off a tremendous amount of noise. Recording consoles are obviously not supposed to do that, unless they're old Peavey's Maybe try a different routing - out to aux busses, etc., via send. Hard to say. Is the noise there when you record (in the track) or just in the headphone/monitor mix? One of these shmarter guys will have to weigh in on this, I've forgotten too much about the little I knew in the first place 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, see the man, see the man... |
