I noticed when looking through some of these photos from different project studios, that a lot of them had wood floors or some sort of reflective surface at the mix position.
Is there a certain advantage to this? My room is carpeted, and I'm just curious. |

2 reasons
1) "better" acoustics, as human ears are used to hear reflections from the floor 2) If you spill something it's easy to clean up. |

3) Its easy to roll around in a comfy chair

Check the ceiling, you'll probably find it is quite heavily treated.
In our main music studio, we have parquet block floors & an innocuous looking padded ceiling. But there is 1,5 metres of trapping depth in that ceiling. Peter |

I do have a cloud above the mix position, but the rest of the ceiling is untreated.
I'm thinking I could do a floating wood floor at the mix position, like this. If I did that, would I need more treatment on the ceiling? Also, could I install locking hardwood flooring floating on a portion of the carpet without using glue or anything? |

I don't think it's a good idea. |

You would have to see (test) after building, but I would think that your cloud would be all you need at that point. Glenn |

i don't think that wood floor is floating on the carpet... plus its mostly for ease of rolling around on it... that said, you could cut your carpet, add in some plywood and interlocking flooring to match your existing carpet height. this would couple the flooring correctly (otherwise it could end up acting like a membrane absorber which could impact your room response in ways unexpected...) |
