Hello,
I have an original Oktava MC 012 I bought in 1998 from GC. It had served me well for about 8 years. One day I noticed a backround noise comming from the pre-amp of the mic that sounded like a faint continous wind blow not a hiss. I checked everything from the cable to pre-amp swapping but still no luck in fixing the issue and no boys it is not my HVAC the room is dead silent with custom plenum ventilation and other mics are dead silent. I spoke with one of the Oktava Mod guys and he said it could be the contact dimple in the pre-amp. The advice was to simply buy a new pre-amp My all over the map ADD questions are this. Has anyone had an issue with there Oktava like this? What could the problem be? The mic has been in a dusty enviroment (shame on me) and out of the case at times. Contact corrosion on the XLR 3 pin male? If I need a new genuine pre where can I source one? I am no slouch with soldering and i have done my own mod work on dozens of things should I just crack this pre-amp open and see whats up? Failing resitor or cap causing noise? I would just hate to see a good pre sit there when I could do something about it. On the other hand I would hat to drop $150 on a new pre only to find the capsule is the issue. Thanks for all your help and listening to my sad story. I just do not have the $$$ to buy a Vintage KM-84 and the music is backing up in my head. J |
