Ok, so I just read an artical on acoustic treatment in this months issue of Recording and they were talking about building bass traps for the corners (703 panels straddling the corner) and said to sandwich two panels of 703 between two pieces of cardboard then wrapping and framing them. Since I haven't heard of this and am no expert I'm wondering what the acoustic performance and/or benefits of this would be.

generally - bad. the cardboard will reduce the gas flow through the fiberglass which will reduce the effectiveness significantly. you could add a strip of cardboard or plastic down the middle of the front of the panel to add some reflection of mid-highs back into the room.

Thanks, I wasn't really thinking to do it, more just wondering why it was done.

Unfortunately the Recording mag article failed to mention that the cardboard is only used to help slide the panel into the bag more easily. After the panel is seated nicely in the bag, the cardboard is to be removed. It is not meant to be a part of the acoustic treatment design. Eeks

Thank-you, that makes alot more sense. Of course now I feel like an idiot but I'm used to that by now.

The editor for the Recording Magaizine article is the one who should feel like an idiot - not you. That was a huge omission on their part. Slap
