I have a pair of tascam monitors and I was thinking of hooking up my home stereo speakers on the same desk, but since I dont have much space I wanna stack them on my monitors. Is there anything dangerous about placing speakers near the monitors that could screw up one or the other? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I'm just curious. Thanks.

I don't think there's anything "dangerous" about stacking the speakers but you won't get very accurate sound. The main problem is the signal from the active speaker is going to vibrate the other speaker and you'll have exaggerated bass response and some weird overtones popping up. That will effect the quality of your mixes.

It's sort of like putting a bass drum on top of a piano. Both instruments will still function but neither will sound very good and the vibration from one will effect the other even if it isn't being used.

There's also more esoteric stuff like the magnets in the speaker coils drawing off each other, RF interference if the cables aren't shielded, yada yada yada . . .

Anyway, I'd at least get some stands or rig up a little bookshelf to physically separate the monitors.

Hope this helps.

Jon
