It seems like there are some folks here who know their way around the inside of a mic, so I thought I'd see if anyone could point me in the right direction.
I've got a MXL 2003 LDC which has a problem where it develops a crackling, popping sound...kind of like wind noise with louder pops...the mic sounds fine initially when phantom power is turned on and then the noise starts a couple of minutes after that and does not go away. So I'm looking for any advice on troubleshooting to figure out which diode, transistor, or whatever component needs to be replaced to fix this. And as long as I'm messing around inside the mic, are there any other good easy mods that I could do at the same time to improve the mic? I've never modded a mic before, but I don't think it would be too difficult with some basic soldering skills. Anyways...let me know what you think... Thanks. |

And yes, I have done basic troubleshooting and it's not a cable or preamp problem...it's definitely the mic.
