[Apologies if I've missed any forum ettiquete with regards to posting specifics/room dimensions etc. I'm posting this quickly at work so I'll elaborate and answer any responses when I'm back Smile]

I'm trying to work out a way of building the cheapest vocal recording area on a miniscule budget (under £100).

My priority is to kill room reflections, but the more soundproof I can get the booth the better. I know it's impossible with my budget to make the booth completely silent from the outside, but if I can reduce the volume by a decent amount I'll be happy.

My plan at the moment is to use a corner of the room I want the booth in. The two corner walls would be half of the booth - and I can stick mattresses/foam/rockwool or whatever is appropriate on them.
For the other half of the booth I was thinking of making two door-sized frames (wood frame & foam), hinged together. This way, I could fold the two sides together and store flat when I need the extra space.

As you've no doubt guessed, I'm clueless (although I'm reading around and informing myself) re. acoustic treatment/soundproofing and DIY. I'd be very grateful if someone could
a) tell me whether my idea has any relevance to my ambition
b) provide a couple of pointers either way

I found someone who used a wall that was for trade shows that was 4 ft tall and folded out to four sections about two feet each and had another identical part to go atop the bottom with pegs that held them atop each other. I have to keep the ends at an angle so it wont fall over but for $50 used it kills alot in my room. And it can fold into a corner to create a booth as long as you hang a carpet on each wall in the corner. Look for cubicles from offices that are disbanding as well. I bet you may find some free in large office spaces.

The best you can do on the budget is to raise two boom stands all the way up and set the boom arm extended and centered as a "T". The drape heavy quilts over them...the really heavy ones that some moving comapnies use work really well...surprisingly well as a matter of fact, but any nice heavy quilt works here. This won't do anything for real "soundproofing" (ie...isolation), but does a great job of killing room nasties to give you a pretty dry/present recording. Of course, being fairly "on the mic" helps as well when setting up the gains in the chain. Even better...a nice dynamic like the SM7 will significantly further decrease the room's affect on the recording...even with compression going-in.
