I've yet to find a good article that explains compression in a manner that makes a lot of sense. I don't have an outboard compressor-all the compression I have is the plug-in type. Is there a need for outboard compression? How does it work? Where is it needed?

I've figured out a lot of things since I started screwing around with this stuff a year ago, but compression ain't one of them. If someone out there can explain how to use it in simple terms, I think it would help more than a few of us.
