Very simple treble booster to get my favorite overdrive sounds from my amp.

I'm going to build another one to sell. It was a lot of fun and I think I'll contemplate a slightly more difficult pedal for the next project.

I'll post some sound files shortly.

Thanks!

I did record some sounds with it for demo purposes.

I'm selling a second one, so I made some clips to go with it.

Sounds great!

Is the 'pop' when the pedal is engaged, and the 'tick' when it's bypassed, coming from the signal path of the pedal, or is it the mechanical sound of the footswitch button being picked up by the mic?

Did you make it from a kit, or from plans? Is it based on the Rangemaster?

A little of both. It tends to only pop the first time it's turned on. After that the ground potentials don't seem to cause the problem.

In practice in my rig my TB stays on all the time. Because the volume boost is so great when it kicks in it's hard to manage it going back and forth.

And yes, it's based on a rangemaster schematic with plans I found online. I even found a premade PCB, and just bought the components and soldered away!

BTW, here's the actual unit featured in the clip:

Cool - it definitely does the classic 'Rangemaster boost into AC30' Brian May sound very well. Love the sound...

That's exactly what it does!

It's for sale, too, if anyone's interested.

I for one love Brian May's tone (and I'm sure I'm not in the minority here), and what you have there sounds great. I was wondering how do you like your Burns guitar? Although it wouldn't be anytime soon, I might like to compliment my 335-ish guitar someday. I'm not necessarily after May's tone, but if I accidentally arrived at it, that would be ok with me!

I've had some problems with the burns, but I enjoy playing it and I like the way it sounds so for me it makes up for it.

I've had it for about 2 years, I think. I had to have it refretted a few months ago, because the frets were all popping off the high side of the neck. It has a rather sharp radius, and it seems rather than properly radius the frets, they just push them in and glue them. So eventually the glue failed and up came the frets.

Other than that (which is no small thing) the workmanship seems adequate, maybe even good. The luthier who refretted it said it was a nice guitar, and I must say with a new fret job and a pro setup it plays really nice!

The sound is quite versatile, so in fact it is my 'go to' guitar for anything unless I absolutely positively need a strat sound (which is less and less these days). The wiring scheme allows you to get thick humbucking like tones by switching on two pickups (in series) or more telecaster like tones by using only one pickup. And you can select any of the three in any combination, and flip the 'phase' of one of any pair which gives a really thin, cut-your-head-off sound.

So, there ya go.
