I'm looking for an ME-1NV right now,but if I could find a good deal on a used 'lunchbox' I'd go for it.

Definitely go for a lunchbox. Once you get the rack out of the way, then it becomes very cost efficient to add pre's, compressors, EQ's, etc in the future. A lot of really nice stuff available for the 500 series format.
