OH MY GOD YOU HAVE A CLONE HIGH QUOTE AS A SIG!!!!! SERIOUS!!!!!

That is my favorite cartoon of the last decade. I annoy all my friends with it!

"Man, we gotta get even with those GESH freaks...if there's one thing Mahatma Ghandi stands for...it's REVENGE!"

I'm utterly baffled at the general opinion regarding smoking. I don't smoke, but it's a bar, for God's sake. That's what your supposed to expect. It's a den of iniquity where people are going to indulge in all of the minor vices and sins denied to them during their mundane workdays. You can wreck your liver, ruin your hearing, get into a fight, and pick up an STD, but somehow smoking is unacceptable? Sheesh. We've turned into a nation of entitled whiners.

*STUDIO UPDATE*

Over the last couple days, my brother (mostly) and I (a little) have begun to tear apart the Quad 8. The thing that scares me about the console is the sheer mass of wiring...it's gotta have a thousand feet of cable in it. And some poor dude had to solder every point on it...I'd probably want to shoot someone once I got done with a project such as that...I'm excited as hell to start getting it turned into some working units.

I've picked up some one-off projects that I'll talk about once I've gotten some sessions tracked.

-----

Also, I got my SM-5 back from the shop. it works. It's friggin glorious. It's the mic for vocalists that don't have technique. Just get up on the foam and go. It sounds even and balanced and I've used it on a variety of voices and gotten great results. It's a great mic, and it's kinda a shame that they aren't made anymore. I got one of the last cartridges that Shure had in stock for it...so...if it shits the bed, I'm going to either look for a used one or go buy an SM-7. But I really, really like this thing.

I'm now FINALLY finishing the Death Metal Project From Hell. It's amazing what Drumagog did for those mixes...just replacing the kick and snare made the rest of the track SO much easier to mix. That, and ditching some of the shitty sounding tracks...they had 2 guitar tracks each...one from a 57 and one C1000...once I took out the C1000 tracks, it actually felt like a big metal guitar...why I tried to keep them in, I'll never really know. Anyways, the last vocals go on tonight...the final mixes for everything get printed...and tomorrow at 2 I'm in mastering. Thank God this is all ending. I've literally had this proect for the better part of a year...it'll be nice to get it cleared off my drives. And to get paid. MMM...money...

These guys plan on doing a new album over the winter or spring...I'm really debating whether or not I should be involved in it. They now like my work, especially after they booted their assclown of a drummer...and they are way easier to work with without his constant ego-tripping and total lack of any sort of ear or taste for sonics. Who knows. They get this DIY thing in their head and I'm not sure they understand how much they don't know. So...I'm not sure I'll want to get in the middle of that. We'll see, I suppose.

THE TEAM.

L to R:

"Brawler" - Brawley KB-25
"Hatori Hanzo" - Warwick Katana 5
"Bastard" - Ernie Ball/Music Man Stingray 5 HH
"67" - Warwick Corvette Standard Fretless
"Kunta Kinte" - Tobias Toby Pro 5

When I was in 8th or 9th grade, a buddy of mine got this Yamaha RBX 5 string...one of the nicer ones with active electronics and such...it was emerald green...one day we were hanging out and he was holding it upside down with the headstock resting on the ground between his feet...the rosewood fingerboard and green body gave the general effect of a palm tree...I mention this to him, and til the day he got rid of it, we called it "The Tree." So now I have this horrible habit of nicknaming instruments ironic things...Hatori Hanzo was the swordmaker in Kill Bill (and the bass is a Katana)...but my favorite is "Kunta Kinte." My firstest bass ever...a "Toby," which, as far as I'm concerned, is it's slave name.

*I had to watch Roots when I was in elementary school. Not actually a racist or endorser of slavery. Personally I think that the nickname connotes a general rejection of that doctrine.

Hi Mr. Combs,

I've got a question for you, since you probably already know a lot about this crap. My bass sounds is not on par with my guitar sound & it's really bothering me. I went to GC a few days ago again, played virtually every bass hanging there, including all the Warwicks & Music Mans. Damn it man, I didn't like any of them. I have an Ibanez SR505 that plays very good compared to all the stuff that I've tried so far, it has active bartolini pickups in it & it's kind of noisy. How realistic do you think it is to swap the electronics with passives? If you think it's worth doing it then what electronics, pickups you'd recommend? I'd like something with pronounced midrange that will cut through the mix nicely. I've been reading about Wal basses, which are supposedly the holy grail of this style; not interested in spending that kind of money on a bass guitar as of now. As I understand they have their custom pickups in them. What pickups would give me that type of midrange in my mahogany bass?
