Ahoy! Here is my new mobile setup that I will use during a 6 month Navy cruise.

I hope to regain my chops and polish some tunes whilst underway.

When I return I plan on seeking professional help to record the album... (API console to 2" with a highly skilled rhythm section and multi-toned crooner sounds dreamy).

I left the last sentence unaltered to display my still backwards thinking. Wink

Setup:

Gibson Les Paul Jr DC (Sweet Jesus.)
Line 6 Pocket Pod (Sick Judas)
M-Audio Key Rig 25
M-Audio Fast track USB sound card (not pictured)
$5 computer mic (not pictured)
Dell laptop with Cubase SL and BFD
Bose Triport
500 GB external HD

Well that looks like a little more interesting than laying in the rack watching the same movies over and over again. I tried to bring a set up on my last float but was told no "guitars."

That sucks Lance! I'm on a frickin' ancient Frigate and I have room room in the shop for this stuff! Just going to have to move it around for inspections!

I have room for the keyboard in my rack and everything else fits in the guitar case!

I still had a little tax refund left so I went sample shopping online at 3AM.

I bought Scarbee Black Bass.

Along with BFD (for drums), this will be my sample setup.

Cubase SL also came with a lite version of "The Grand" for my piano needs.

I may shop for a lighter KONTAKT-based sample library to replace BFD as well.

hey Dusty, what did you do with all that gear you had from your "land-locked" studio? Storage?

Hey Tube. I sold most of the "core" pieces of my old studio... But I still have a few niceties such as my ADK CE and KRK V8's.

The best thing is I still have tons of accessories such as cables, snakes, acoustic panels, silent computer case, stands and racks at my moms house.

I also still have all my guitars, drums, bass and amps... And my PA.

Pretty much all I sold was mics, mic pres, converters and compressors.

So as soon as I get back from deployment and get a housing allowance I'm rebuilding. Smile.

This time I plan to focus on 2 or 3 good complementary input channels, no drums and excelent acoustics and monitoring.

And I'm going to track 90% of my real tracks elsewhere.

It seems that you are really organized gear wise, actually this reminds me that a good friend of mine wants to use a digital piano but hasn't bought one yet because he is not sure which is best for him, love to pass some recommendations to him.

8 flipping months... But 8 flipping months with a pretty neato-studio and a (might as well be) private gym to keep me well occupied.

Update. I have added an SM-57 and velcro'd all the gear to a thin piece of wood.

I'm going to try to get some pics up... But time is counting down before my big departure... Bricks

Here are some new pics of the upgrades

I can now operate completely on battery power. The big 500GB external (which will be used for backups) has been replaced for streaming audio with a laptop (5400RPM but still fast enough!) 160GB external that runs off of USB power.

I will generally plug in my pocket pod and computer anyways though.

I also bought a new 57. Kills me since I sold 5 vintage Unidyne III's, but it's cool.

And as you can see the bulk of the setup is velcro'd to a thin board. The external HD will be velcro'd as well.

I've got a very nice (IMHO) demo going and I hope to get it posted before I "leave-leave".

And to think... The rest of my shipmates are DREADING deployment... HAHAHA!
